GHI LADIES
When you go to the doctors office and get bloodwork done and you pay your $15 co-pay....do you also get a bill from Lab Quest for an additional $15??
I just got another bill and called GHI and found out that Dr. B's office is charging $15 for "processing and handling fees" and then send it to Lab Quest where they charge me an additional $15!! I've never heard of this.... is this really true?? Do all of you guys have to pay this as well?

Re: GHI LADIES
Hi,
Sounds like a "scam" to me in your DR's office. I have GHI too:) I pay $15 for my co-pay for blood work, or $30 if it's blood and sono:)
I only got billed from Quest when I initially went for a lot of bloodwork, and this is because they sent it out to the lab. Whenever I go now for a blood test or two they do it in-house (I believe) and I pay the office directly.

Re: GHI LADIES
I have GHI and this has always been the case for me. The $15 you pay at the office is for the visit then the $15 Quest bills you is the portion of the blood work that GHI doesnt cover.

Yes, it really does sound scummy to me too ...apparently GHI said the doctors office can charge what they want since its considered a co-pay and the lab can charge what they want because they are the ones running the tests. They told me that when they charged me for "bloodwork" at the doctors office, they were charging me for "processing and handling"
And get this- the lady at lab quest said to me .... "I know you have one bill in front of you- Im sorry, but you have 3 others that still need to be sent out"

Im just glad its only $15. I was seeing Dr B also and I have to say, since starting with him in Jan until finishing with him just last week, my treatment cost us between $5000-$7000. Not complaining b/c its all for the greater good but these things really add up. And I find GHI is not really upfront. The card says $15 copay but its hardly ever just $15. It was costing me $30 at Dr B everytime I had a sono plus if I go to my primary and lets say they do a strep test or something, THAT costs extra too I had HIP before this so I have to say Im happy with GHI but IMO they are a little sneaky.

Yes, it is really adding up....but like you said- its for the greater good. Its just tough because its becoming very expensive along with all the medications. Like you said, I prefer GHI over HIP....when I used to have HIP, I had to get referrals for EVERYTHING- with GHI I can just make any appt I want and go. But very sneaky
Congratulations on graduating from Dr. B's office!!!

Re: GHI LADIES
Thank you!! And YES, just the referral part alone makes GHI worth it. I cant even begin to tell you the problems I had with HIP just to get a referral. One time I was standing outside an orthopedic office with a broken ankle, on the phone with HIP trying to get them to do the referral they were suppose to
Good luck with Dr B!! Im sure you already know hes the best!!

Re: GHI LADIES
If you're just getting lab work done, ask Dr. B's office for a script and go to the lab. I've done that a couple of times just because the lab is closer to me than Dr. B's. This way you only pay one copay to the lab. Dr. B's isn't for an office visit but for the actual venipuncture (blood draw) and the lab's copay is for the blood testing.
(I had a field day with the Insurance company when I went to East Coast. It's a complete scam there because they charge you double copay and a small office visit when they call you to tell you the results of your blood test. IMHO all they want is your money.)

Good idea!!! Thank you Good thing I asked for a script to get my beta done...or else I would have paid the $15 and another $15 from the lab... its just so ridiculous
