gift for neighbor who takes care of stray cats

A neighbor of my mom's, where i grew up and who i've known since childhood, takes care of this stray cat who was abandoned by a neighbor (moved away and left him in the house, then the new owners didn't want him and put him out on the street - awful!!). she can't have the cat inside b/c of her current cat who is nasty nasty nasty. Now that it's bitter cold and snowing, her husband blocked off one of the rooms right off the side door so the cat can stay there w/o getting into a scuffle with the indoor cat (who had also been a neighborhood stray).

I wanted to get her something for the cat for christmas but don't really know what to buy. I thought of a gift card to petco but prefer getting "something". if it comes down to it i'll just get the gift card, but if anyone has any ideas of something I can give? TIA!!!

ETA: not sure if this is going to be a permanent sitution or not. i hope so for the cat's sake, although he might like roaming the neighborhood too from what i've heard

That is really nice of you! How about a scratching post and a few small toys?

If you know what food she feeds, give her an extra bag.

How much do you have to spend? WHat about a cat house for their yard? One of the barns I boarded at had a "cat house" for the barn cats. (They also always had access to the barn for shelter, too, but they loved the cat house.)

i loooove the idea of a cat house, but don't have that much to spend. i wanted to stick to abou $30 or less. i think i'll go for a scratching post (or maybe an inexpensive bed). thanks ladies! (i don't know what kind of food she feeds them)
