Gift for one kid and not another?

I am having some friends over for a bbq on Sunday. One friend (who I'm very fond of but not very close to) has a DD who just turned one last week. Another friend, who is visiting from out of state (and who is my best friend) has a DS who will be 2 in a couple of weeks. Normally I would get presesnts for both kids to give to them at the bbq. But, my friend from out of state has more than enough stuff to schlep back home (on a plane), so I'm sure adding (another) gift to that will be annoying for her. My plan was to just send a birthday gift to her son when they are home. But, I would still want to get a gift for my other friend's 1 year old DD. But I don't want the 2 year old to be upset that he didn't get a present. Should I just skip getting a present for the 1 yr old, get a little something for the 2 yr old to open, or any other ideas?

Since it is the 1 yo bday I would just give that kid a present. Maybe have a new bottle of bubbles on hand for the 2 year old as a just in case and he can play with them at the bbq

I would get a birthday present for kid one and a birthday card with a gift card to TRU with a small activity for the plane trip and for kid two.

I wouldn't give one child a gift and not the other ......The 2 year old will be upset.

I don't know what you'd spend/buy for either - but I'd give both a check/gift card and then something small to play with - Is the 2 year old a boy? You could give either of my boys a car/truck/plane/train for $5 and they'd play for hours !!

My 2 year old wouldn't have a clue if another kid got a gift and she didn't. I would just give it at the end if it is something they can't both play with.
