Do you spend more or less on a kid's birthday gift depending on where the party is being held?

Like would you buy a more expensive gift if you knew that the party was being held at an expensive restaurant vs an at home party or kiddie place?
Do you try to buy a gift that will cover your plate?
We have a first bday party coming up at a very fancy restaurant. I was originally going to buy a decent ticket priced toy (~$75) but now I'm thinking we should spend more?
This is a somewhat new friend (friend of a friend I've known for 4 years but gotten closer to recently in the past 6 months).

I usually try and stick to the 50$ range for 1st birthdays, but I never really have been to one at a fancy place like that.
