Gift questions, need suggestions please!
Ok, I have a gazillion functions to attend over the next few weeks, and I am not sure what to give for them. Any suggestions would be completely appreciated!
1) JT's niece is making her communion. This is his god-daughter, I don't know what to give her!
2)We have a confirmation party for one of JT's second cousins. How much money should we give him?
3)We also have a bar-mitzfah, how much money should we give for that?
4)I have my godson's christening, what gift can I give him for that?
Sorry so many, but I just have no clue, and I want to be prepared incase I have to send JT alone to any of these things. TIA!!!!

You have to give what you can afford first of all. I just attended my cousin's bar mitzvah and I gave him $250, but I didn't have the rest of the functions coming up like you did. Your may want to pick a number like $150 for all to make it even if you can afford it or if you think it warrants it.
I'm very close to my cousins so I'm comparing the relationship.
eta: for a Christening I would consider a $100 savings bond. Maybe a cute outfit.

Re: Gift questions, need suggestions please!
1) Goddaughter Communion: $250 savings bond = $125, plus a sentimental/religious gift, charm bracelet? cross? with a letter about being proud, WRITTEN IN JT's Handwriting
2) Confirmation Party $75-100 savings bond
3) Bar Mitzvah - I'm not sure what the going rate is but years ago I was giving $200.
4) $250 savings bond = $125, plus a sentimental/religious gift, charm bracelet? cross? with a letter about being proud to be chosen as godmother. You should check with the mom. Most of our friends & family have a tradition where the godmother buys/contributes toward the christening outfit & the godfather buys the cross.

Re: Gift questions, need suggestions please!
Ok, thanks everyone! I probably will do the savings bonds and piece of religious jewelry for the christening and communion because it is JT's sister's kids, and i'd like to give them more than just one or the other. I'll have to talk to JT about what he thinks for the bar-mitzah and the confirmation party. The confirmation party is his cousin's son, and we don't know the kid. The bar-mitzfah is his old boss' son, and I know him very well, so I'd like to give him a good gift. Thanks everyone!

Re: Gift questions, need suggestions please!
I would definetly up the $ amount considering it is your God-daughter and niece. Plus in my circle of family and friends, the God-Father makes a "donation" to the church, given to the priest that day,in the childs name. Remember the church fee when we all got married <if you were married in church>?? Well, same thing.
Don???? What does 50 bucks get you these days? I spend more than that when I go buy milk and bread.

Re: Gift questions, need suggestions please!
I guess I am cheap, I give about $100 to children I am closer to, with a small gift for these types of events.
For kids I am not that close to, I give $50-$100.
We did give more for a Bat Mitzvah recently, but I let my husband decide what he wanted to give, since it was on his side of the family.
