Gift recs for 1st birthday?

What do you typically like to give for a 1st birthday (particularly girl)?

Or, as a parent, like your child to receive?

Too many 1st birthdays lately and don't know what to get! Plus...when people ask me what they should get my DD I'm stumped! I feel like saying, just add to her college fund! But then this kid would get nothing to play with...Chat Icon

Well, for Emerson's 1st Birthday (as you know) we did the TRU Wish List and it worked out AWESOME!!! I was able to pick out all of the things that I knew she would like that were age appropriate and it kept her from getting a thousand duplicates of the same toy. LOVED the Wish List!!! Chat Icon I liked having Emerson get a mix of toys and clothes. You can never have too many clothes!!

As for gifts that I give............girls to me are the EASIEST to shop for. There are a gazillion adorable outfits out there! I also have an educational toy store out by me which I love because they have different and interesting toys. Sometimes it's hard to buy toys for a 1 year old just because there isn't a HUGE selection of toys for that age bracket and it's inevitable that someone will probably buy the same things as you. Anyway, I usually will give an outfit and a toy. Chat Icon However, for Christian's birthday I gave a gift certificate to Build-A-Bear which I figured would be a fun thing for Michelle to take him to do.

Word of advice..........if you do tell people what to get Riley think about some toys in the 18 months to 2 years range. I did that for Emerson and it was the BEST thing I ever did because a few months after her birthday she had a bunch more new toys to play with that were age appropriate like her covered wagon, Cozy Coupe car, etc. And since Riley will have no clue about how much she gets or what she gets ask for gift certificates. That's the best gift because then I can buy Emerson things as she needs them whether it be clothes or a toy. Chat Icon

Clothes are always the best. I didn't get a ton of summer stuff for Mason b/c I figured I'd wait till after his birthday and then get him more. When pple asked I always said something like... age appropriate toys, some outside toy or clothes and the size I need.

I know he's a boy, but he got a lot of ride on car or truck stuff, some puzzles, a blow-up pool, toy tools and other construction stuff and of course some clothes.

DH made him the swingset, which was his gift from us and we also got him the Learn and Play house that he loves.
