Gift suggestions - friend's baby in Paris -- what "American" gift would be good?
A friend in Paris just had her first baby and I want to send her something thoughtful (and useful). She's in her 40's and is a single mom -- she once gave me a beautiful French baby book that all three DCs have loved and it always makes me think of her....should I reciprocate with something very similar (ie a very American children's book)? What screams, baby gift from America?? TIA.

You could order something from FAO Schartz as that screams the US to me...or try getting some books on the larger US cities like NY, San Fran, Chicago, Boston etc...there is a really nice line of books that are geared towards kids and highlights the main areas in various cities...its something like " I see NY" or " I Like NY" or something like that - do a search on amazon.
Although not a fan myself I guess winnie the pooh is classic american no?
