Seriously - some kind of food. My GF brought be a big tin of ruggelagh (sp?) and it was so great - I was famished in the middle of the night. Even if the person had a c/s where sometimes the diet is limited early on you can bring a milkshake. I did that when one friend had c/s and was still restricted.

My new favorite thing to do is send the new mom and baby pajamas from pajamagram.com... I usually have it sent to their house so they don't have any extras to carry home.

The first thing that comes to mind is food! Maybe her favorite "bad food".. like wendy's etc... Some pretty smelling hand lotion or something else just for her.
You can always bring the baby something once they go home. It's less for them to have to take home.

Magazines, esp if she had a c-section and will be there for a few extra days...
My fave from my best friend was a bottle of champagne and sushi from JenBenMen!

Re: gift to bring friend in hospital who just had a baby
Anything food My mother in law brought me in cookies and my SIL and BIL sent me a big fruit arrangement. I snacked all day
I had a c-section and I couldnt wait to take a shower. Especially after having all the doctors and nurses poking at me. A nice hot shower and my own PJ's made me feel like a million bucks. I felt like a whole new person. Maybe bring her some lotions or bath things. A pair of nice soft PJ's or comfy slippers.
