Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

My birthday is coming up and DH wants to get me a new IPOD. My current one works just fine so I don't want a new one. (It's only 10 gigs though.)I don't want any jewelry, I don't want a new bag, there is honestly nothing I want!

Same with Christmas...my mom aka Santa asks me what I want, there is honestly nothing that I want. I could use more clothes but I don't want a GC, I just don't spend $ on clothes like that. I buy items as I need them and sparingly.

There is nothing I want! I seriously have everything I want short of a house!

Am I the only one that just does not want anything??? There is really nothing I truly NEED either!

Hey, let me know if you come up with anything.

My bday is next month and my mom and DH keep asking me, but I'm in the same boat.

I don't "need" anything or even see any jewelry, bags etc I even want right now!

I feel your pain, from the other side!

this is my "gift giving season". I have 4 gifts to buy in October alone, and then 2 more the 1st week of November. I have to come up with ideas for everyone. Chat Icon

I hate it! I wish I could just write everyone a check. Chat Icon

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

I would say gift cards to clothing stores that you like or just a general Visa gift card b/c even though you dont need anything now, you will one day.

I love getting gift cards for Christmas and maybe if I dont need anything at that time it is great to find them a few months later when it is time to buy new summer clothes, KWIM?

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

i'm the same. i honestly don't need anything and feel blessed that I can say that. sure, gifts are nice, but how much crap does one person need? if anything, i would prefer things like an American Express card so DH and I could go out to eat or go somewhere for the weekend, etc.

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

I never have this problem.

There's always something I need or want -- especially because sometimes the things I really want are not things I would normally buy for myself -- like a nice, new Coach bag... or something like a spa day, nice lingerie or new VS bras/undies, a great new perfume, etc. I ask for things that I feel "guilty" treating myself to like Tiffany's jewelry or really nice clothes.

That's EXACTLY the type of thing you should suggest as gift. What better then something you would enjoy but not indulge in??? Chat Icon

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

I am just like you in that respect.

While there are things that are nice to have, if I know I won't use something or enjoy it - I feel like it is a wasted gift and would rather have nothing.

This year I have something to ask for since we are going away in January, but I am usually the one to say - I really don't need anything right now. I hate having excess stuff and clutter as well.

When I can't think of anything that I really "need", I ask for GC to my nail salon, my hair salon, things like that.

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

you mentioned a house.

since these are people you, obviously, are close to... politely ask for them to contribute towards your downpayment.

i know, not very "birthday-ish", but it helps with what you really want.

i'm usually the same way

Re: Gifts - Christmas/Birthday/Etc.

I am going through this right now as my birthday is almost 2 weeks away.

I told everyone, even though I need nothing right now, I would like GC's (even AMEX or VISA general ones) bc eventually when I do need something, I can use the GC rather then my money. The massage GC is another one I want, remember, it might not be something you NEED but it is something you can pamper yourself on with someone else's money!

In regards to the holidays, DH & I decided to just do small token things bc we are starting our IVF journey this month. We just discussed this with our families over the weekend that we are all fortunate enough to need nothing, so it is all about family time this year.
