Gifts for NICU nurses?
So hopefully will be coming home within the next two weeks after spending what will probably end up being 6 weeks in the NICU. I want to do something for the nurses b/c they have been absolutely amazing with them! I could use some ideas though. I was thinking I could bring in 2 Edible Arrangements (1 for day shift, 1 for night) but I dont know if that seems like enough. I guess in my eyes I couldn't spend enough to thank them for getting my babies through the most critical times of their lives but I know I have to be realistic also. Ideas??

Re: Gifts for NICU nurses?
My baby wasn't in NICU and nurses didn't do anything special, but they were very nice. We gave them chocolates and flowers ... well the flowers were just left overs from what people gave me, I got way way too many flowers.

my sister is a nicu nurse who also just had twins - a boy and girl she got the nurses a fruit arrangement because she said that they are always getting fatty foods and its nice to have a healthy treat. she is working tonight but I can ask her what other popular things they like. she works over night shift.

Re: Gifts for NICU nurses?
The day we took DS home from the NICU (he was there for 4 weeks) we took platters of cookies. We had seen other people bring in edible things when they left also, so I think two edible arrangements would be perfect. They put them in the breakroom so that all the nurses can take some and before we walked out to go home, a few of the nurses came by to say thanks, so I think it was appreciated
We tried to think of the best thing to bring, but in the end we didn't know what was "best" so we chose cookies since they're easily distributed/taken (no utensils needed) and people can have as many or as few as they liked. My BFF is a doctor who worked in the NICU and she actually suggested cookies.
And congrats on bringing your DC home soon! I have to say, the day we took him home was wonderful (haha, and a little scary), but the night before I cried with one of the nurses, knowing it was our last night there.

Re: Gifts for NICU nurses?
The day we picked up DS from the NICU, we brought a big basket of snacks that we had put together ourselves...we went to Sam's and bought snack packs of nuts, trail mix, cookies, granola bars, some chewing gum, etc. Then we bought a laundry basket at Michaels and filled it with all the food and wrapped it with clear plastic. I figured it was more than they would get from an EA (I find them kind of small for the $$) and not a bunch of junk food like cookies or cakes.
