Hospital Gifts question???
2 of my friends that are already mothers told me to bring some sort of gift for the nurses at the maternity ward. These friends are from 2 different states and they both told me to either have my DH bring in a big platter of cookies as a thank you or bring small gifts to give out. They said that you'll get better treatment and the nurses will make sure you are well stocked with "goodies" to go home with for the new baby.
Have you heard of this? Are you planning on doing this?
TIA!

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
My uncle or my cousins DH ususally brings a big tray of cookies to the hospital to thank the nurses. They ususally bring them in right after she gives birth. (she is going to have her 3rd baby in a few weeks...)I have not heard about getting small gifts.

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
My nurses changed every 12 hours so I rarely saw the same ones. Each of them knew how greatful I was they didn't need gifts.
I thought of sending something after we got home but then I got distracted with my little man.

Sounds like a good idea, never thought of that. A little bribery never hurt

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
I felt like I never had the same nurses or didn't use them much but in the NICU where Kevin was for 5 days there was a coupel we really liked. We bought them a big thing of flowers but I didn't get any special favors from it. My hospital didn't give me anything besides my Similac bag.

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
I was induced, so we were in the hospital the night before..the next morning (the day my son was born) my husband went out and brought back bagels and cream cheese...and put them in the nurse/Dr. lounge...

I've never heard of doing this either...but, I guess it won't hurt. I'll have to let my husband know so when the time comes, he can do the right thing.

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
I work in a hospital and people bring things from time to time.
The only difference it makes is that people feel better, especially if you were asking a lot of them and it shows that it was appreciated.
There's no special treatment for those that do vs those that don't.
Do it if you feel like it because nurses are overworked and underpaid and you appreciate them, not for VIP treatment...

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
We brought bagels/creamcheese/juice to the L&D nurses upon arrival and I'm really glad we did. The maternity floor was a lot more chaotic and I never really saw the same nurse twice.

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
We usually try to bring something to the nurses when some one is in the hospital...I'll have to tell my DH to remember that when It's my turn.

Re: Hospital Gifts question???
I have heard of this....my best friend did it. She made chocolate lollipops for the Dr's office when she went for her 6 week check, and I think she brought in cookies for the hospital.
It's a nice way to say thank you for all their hardwork-they go un-noticed too many times. If you do a platter, you might want to do 2, one for the day shift, one for the PM shift.
