I would go to Target and get them some fun jewelry or makeup to play with. They have some really fun sets there.

My niece is 9 and very girly girl. She LOVES clothes. She's also very in to music so she has a little mp3 player. Or maybe little lip glosses and nail polishes?

For my 8 year old niece for the holidays I went to Claires in the mall and got a bunch of makeup, nailpolish, lipgloss, make-up bag, hair clips, headbands, etc and filled everything in a nice gift bag. She loved it and everything at Claires is usually half off or buy one get one.

Re: Gifts for preteen girls .. GIRLY GIRLS!
CVS is trying to sell out all the gift sets they had for Christmas - they had makeup and nail sets for $10 then 75% off, and they're not packaged in Christmas packaging at ALL!!! For $2.50, it's a great "filler" gift!

My nieces love crafts - you can get a make your own jewelry set or a design your own bag one. Michaels has a whole bunch to choose from.

This is what I would suggest as well! I was very "girly" when I was that age (not so much anymore, especially now that i am a mommy of 2 boys ) and i would have LOVE that!!!!.
