Girl name help!

We thought we had a name for Chat Icon but now DH doesn't like it. DD keeps saying she wants to name the baby Ariel lol bc of the Little Mermaid. And DH said he kind of likes it or Ariella. I'm not totally against it, but is it too Little Mermaid? Keep in mind that DD is Alanna! Little Mermaid fans will know the dilemma lol! Thanks for your opinions!

Eta- we aren't trying to stick with all "A's"

Re: Girl name help!

I had liked the name Ariella when we were thinking of a name for my 2nd daughter. I wasn't concerned about the similarity to the mermaid at all. I will throw this out there though - 3 separate people told me that name reminded them of areola! I had never made that connection, but I guess some people might. Just figured I would put it out there Chat Icon

Sorry! I wouldn't let it change your mind. We went with a different name, but not because of that. I just thought it was strange that 3 people mentioned that when the thought had never even crossed my mind.

I like Arielle..I believe Ariel is technically the masculine version of Arielle. Not that it matters but like Danielle v. Daniel.

Thanks ladies. The areola thing is making me rethink lol. It makes me laugh. Leaning towards Arielle, but there is still plenty of time. Anyone care to share their fave girl name?

Crashing! I have an Arielle, and we get compliments on her name all the time. "Ari" means "lion" in Hebrew. I loved the idea of giving my daughter a strong name.

I like it! We're in a similar situation in that our 2.5 year old sort of decided on a name for us. She picked a name and is adamant about it. At first DH and I just laughed but then it got hard to picture naming the baby anything else and we kind of fell in love with the name. I also think it would be really sweet for her to have such a big part of picking the name. The only problem will be if we have a girl since, even though she picked what could be a unisex name, I only like it for a boy. We're in big trouble if it's a girl!

Re: Arielle--I think there can be a difference in how you pronounce it-- "R-E-L", versus Air-E-L. On another note, my FSIL's name is Ariel but she actually goes by Ari.

Re: Girl name help!

I like Arielle or Ariel. It's a very pretty name and your DD will be thrilled.

Of course she will outgrow the little mermaid one day, but your other DD will still have the name, so you need to love it.

I love Little Mermaid but don't really know the reference to Alanna except that isn't she one of Tritan's daughters. Is that your concern?

Haha yes! But I'm over it! We have decided to use Arielle Grace.
