Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
I have a few questions....
Are you happy with the brazilian?
How does your hair dry? how long does it take to blow dry?
Which do you like better?
how is your hair?
I have so much breakage growing back from the last time (6 months ago) JHS and I want extensions and my friend wont do them unless I stop JHS
I think I might need to make a change!

Re: Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
I am going on Saturday to get Brazilian at Hair Club IB so I will let you know....
I did have the brazilian done before and I wasn't happy with it.(at a salon in NJ) Overall it looked nice but it needed a lot of maintenance to get it straight but it didn't frizz or kink up in humidity. I liked how it looked but hated the fact that I still had to blow dry it and style it.
I am getting it done this time bc of breakage also. Last time I got the JHS, they told me that they recommend this bc it makes your hair look healthier etc.
Wish me luck !
oh, my hair is thick, past my shoulders and used to be really curly but now if I dont blow dry it, itls more of frizzy waves, if that makes sense !

Re: Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
Beth, I had JHS done once. I loved it at the time and then I started to miss my CURLS!
Fast forward 2 yrs later, I started doing Brazilian.
From what I see and know, I think they are entirely different. I feel the JHS has a more chemicals that are applied and yes easier to maintain.
Brazilian dosent exactly straighten your hair entirely. I can still throw gel/mouse and gets some waves (its also not as curly as it used to be..hormones?).
This am, I took a paddle brush, didnt even section it and blow dryed...done in 10min and my hair is non frizzy and straight but not PIN straight. I dont wash the 2nd day, and I tend to use a hot iron to style my hair.
The Brazilian I feel is not as harsh on your hair. Its a Keratin treatment, that is what makes you hair feel so silky and smooth. I dont have any damage either and I color my hair.
I have someone who does it, a friend and charges under $200 to do it. Shes awesome. Just had it done 3wks ago, it was my 2nd time and for some reason this one felt so much better. A different salon as well.

Please give me the full report after you get it done!
I am thinking the next time I need it- it will be winter so a good time to test it out
my hair used to be so thick and now it's not- I didn't realize how much was broken until my friend pointed it out- now I keep finding sections of 3 inch peices all growing back out
I think it's time to change- 7 years of JHS is alot
my hair looks healthy- but I am not sure how much more it can take

Can you get brazilian w/ highlights? If so, how long do you have to wait between highlights & brazilian? Also, do you need to use special shampoo w/ Brazilian?

Re: Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
I have been getting JHS for about 4 years and was talked into doing the Brazilian by a friend...well my hair was already growing out (it was about 8 months after my last JHS that I had it done) and I absolutely hated it. I also got it done at Hair Club I.B. and whatever they used smelled horrible! My hair felt weird afterwards for a month, its almost as if I didn't rinse out my conditioner, like I felt the silky/stickiness between the strands at all times and my hair felt "heavy". I used special shampoo/conditioner/hair products with the Brazilian and had to wash my hair every day because it would get greasy so fast. I just went back there to get the JHS and will never get the Brazilian again. To me it it was a waste of money and felt as if it washed out with in 2 weeks....I still had to flat iron my roots because they were curly/frizzy.
This could've been just my experience because I do know tons of people who get it done and love it...even though none of those people usually do JHS.
You can always get the brazilian done right before they do JHS next time....Hair Club I.B. offers that service to people who want to protect their hair with the brazilian but also want it straight...check out the free board on their website.
Good luck!

Yes, you can do it with highlights, not sure on how long you have to wait though in between. And yes, a special shampoo and conditioner is needed, one that doesn't contain Sodium Chloride I think its called (sulfate free) They sell them in CVS, Target, Walmart...etc.
You can ask any questions you have on Hair Club I.B.'s free board, even if you don't go there...check it out Free Question Board

Re: Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
hey beth
brazilian or keratin?
keratin is what i got. i got it when my hair was at its worst and i chopped it and wanted to make it easier to keep my new short 'do maintained.
keratin is more along the lines of relaxing your hair. its not wash and go.
what i loved about it is thata a)it completely transformed my hair as far as strength, shine, and manageablity. it actualy 'holds' better on damaged hair. i had bleached and heat styled my hair to no end so mine lasted a long time.
it cut blow dry time to about 5 minutes with medium hair. i didint have to use a round brush, just combed with my fingers, but i liked curling my ends with a big fat curling iron for some body. reason 'b' why i loved it. you can style your hair any wait you want.
if youre used to JHS and wash and go and pin straight..i wouldnt recommend keratin for that, unless your willing to put in some time for that look.
youll look beautiful no matter what!

Re: Girls who used to get JHS but now get Brazilian....
Hi Beth I just had the brazilian on Sat. Well, I liked that it only took about 2 hrs with a haircut instead of 4 or more. It is really straight now and feels very weird (agree wirh creativeB , it feels like conditioner is still in there). I havent washed it yet so I am not sure what to think but everyone likes how it looks so far, its very flat but looks healthy and shiny. I will keep you posted on how it looks after I wash it today.
It ws 170 plus 20 for a cut. I know you have to use special sulfate free shampoo but don't know about styling products.

Sodium Chloride is the ingredient to stay away from in any shampoo, conditioners or styling products. It will shorten the time that the treatment stays on your hair, so avoiding it tends to help it "keep" better.
