Giuliana Rancic: If Rachel Zoe Can Get Pregnant, So Can I

Despite her pin-thin frame, Giuliana Rancic insists her weight hasn't factored into her infertility problems -- and people who think otherwise are simply "ignorant."

"Look at Kelly Ripa! She's half my size and has no body fat and has kids," Giuliana 36, complains to Radar Online. "Gisele [Bundchen] is a supermodel, and I've pinched her in real life just to see if she has body fat -- zero body fat! Look at Victoria Beckham, she's on her fourth child."


Though she's been open about her struggle to get pregnant on the Style Network's Giuliana & Bill, the the E! News host says she's tired of being criticized for her small physique.

"It's unbelievable to me the amount of ignorant comments that come in and it's just uninformed ignorant people," she gripes. "Rachel Zoe is pregnant! To all the haters, get informed! Go Google it! It has nothing to do with anything."


"There are thin girls with infertility issues, normal sized girls with infertility issues and overweight girls with infertility issues," she continues. "Unless your doctor tells you your weight is affecting you in some way...once the doctor rules it out, that's really not it."

Giuliana -- who once told UsMagazine.com she got up to 63 IVF shots a month to increase her chances of having a child with Bill Rancic -- says she's taking a break from the grueling infertility treatments for now.


"This break, which has only been a few months, was so incredibly necessary after two years of shots and being a lab rat and going in and out of doctors' offices and mood swings," she says. "I forgot what it was like to feel normal."

I feel for them. Struggling with IF issues myself, I can realte to her lunacy. The journey does make you somewhat nutty, or at least it has and does for me. She sounds very frustrated and is just venting. I really hope it works out for them.

I saw the interview on the View and Giuliana said that she did gain what the the doctor recommended + additional weight and she still didn't get pregnant.

going through this I totally get what she is saying. I look at other woman all the time and say ok I look like that why am I not getting pregnant. I am overweight and my dr. hasnt said that is the reason everything else is working fine my DH has the issue. I get what she is saying going to Dr's is so grueling and it takes a lot of you mentally and physically. Every month getting the negative result is so awful and anyone who has not gone through it has no idea.

I'm sorry but she has every right to be frustrated and it came to the point where she is comparing herself to other celebs. I would of done the same thing if I was in her shoes. I can't even imagine what they are going through right now and I really do feel for them!

I was watching Fashion Police last night and thought to myself...she just doesn't look healthy. It looks like she lost weight and is almost skeletal.

Maybe the IVF shots are making her a little crazy. I can't blame her for that.

But even if she managed to get pregnant, carrying a baby around at that weight can't be healthy for either of you. Carrying yourself around at that weight is hardly healthy.

From what it sounds like.. her dr did tell her to gain weight. What that 'healthy' weight is, is between her and her dr. Maybe she's achieved that already.. maybe she's not working on gaining weight since she's taking a break from ivf. We don't know.


All i can say is that i completely and totally sympathize with her - she works in an industry where she has to look 'good' so she's conscious of her weight (which yes, is thin). But it seems like every celebrity is now pregnant and she has to sit there and comment on how good they look. Of course its frustrating!
As anyone who's been through IF knows.. it sucks the life out of you and is immensely draining. I don't blame her for being upset and wondering out loud why so and so can get pregnant and she can't. I do it all the time myself!

All I can say is when people are dealing with IF, everyone is a doctor. They all "know" how to get pregnant from standing on your head to "just relax". I'm glad they talk about it because it's helpful to other people dealing with IF privately to realize they're not alone but I feel for celebrities having to go through such personal pain publically.

i say good for her...i think it is pure ignorance when people make comments like that about weight, especially when it comes to something so sensitive like ttc...

the girl is thin and works out. so what she is skinny. there are tons of thin women who get and stay pregnant. unless her body stopped menses due to being underweight. i personally do not think it has anything to do with her infertility. that is just my opinion from what i have seen on the show. it seems like the woman eats. i know lots of thin girls who conceive and stay pregnant. just like i know lots of obese women who conceive and stay pregnant.

after watching her have a loss i can relate so much more to her. i lost ours and we conceived on the first try. i can't imagine if we lost it and it took ivf to get pregnant...i just really feel for them, it's terrible what they are going through and i wouldn't wish these things on my worst enemy.

i know how aggravating it is to have people comment on your weight. it's obnoxious and people think b/c you are thin they have free reign to criticize you yet people don't say anything bad about overweight people b/c it's not right and they don't want to be offensive (you see it all the time on these boards, the negative comments towards thin women) i would have said something to...i say good for her for sticking up for herself...

I don't know too much about her particular situation but, I will say I think these comments are pretty ridiculous. I think it goes without saying that every person's body is different - one person can be naturally super skinny and, healthy, while another person looking exactly the same can be starving themselves and affecting there reproductive capabilities (i.e. if they are not getting their period etc.). I don't thing Rachel Zoe or Kelly Ripa etc. have ANY bearing on whether or not Giuliana rancic cannot get pg b/c she is too skinny - I think only her Dr. could tell her that. And, I think Kelly ripa used to be pretty normal sized - her super skinniness is just a recent thing. But, again, nothing to do with it.

I feel so so horrible for her. I was fortunate to get pregnant on my own just as we started consulting with a RE, but I remember how nutso you get and how horrible you feel when you feel like your body fails you and when you can't have the one thing you so badly want. And it is so easy to blame everything when it is just not happening.

I hope she gets pregnant.

One has nothing to do with the other. How would everyone that is defending her ( and I have dealt with fertility issues myself) feel if it were a morbidly overweight actress saying " Well soandso was able to get pregnant while being overweight so why should I have to loose weight to get pregnant?? If she can do it so can I."

Even after her doctor had advised her she needed to loose weight and get healthier to help her get pregnant?

This woman makes me sick. We all know what her doctor has said and the dumb things she has said.
As someone who has been struggling with getting pregnant looking at and listening to her is just terrible.

Here is my take on it. Yes, skinny girls get pregnant, duh. However, if your doctor directly tells you that it is imperitive to gain weight to increase fertility I wouldn't hesistate like she did. I would eat my brains out and gain 20lbs if that is what it would take.

Don't get me wrong, I happen to really like Giuliana, and I want her to get pregnant so badly! I just think she has some other issues going on because the way she is acting seems a bit odd to me.

Sometimes, it's just not that easy to get preg as in gaining a few pounds. We don't know if the Dr was just throwing suggestions out there like gain 5 pounds & after dtd stand on your head to help the sperm find it's way. And I thought she did say that she tried gaining weight but it didn't work. I don't think she is so dumb to go through countless shots i/o just gaining a few pounds, like that's the magic answer. When I had told my Dr that I was ttc for a few months w/o success, the first thing he told me was maybe to gain 5 pounds. I think it's just something they throw out there. I never gained those 5 pounds when I eventually got preg btw. That wasn't the answer.

What's unbelievable to me is that she doesn't expect her life to be under a microscope when she puts it all out there for public consumption.

I don't know what it's like to undergo IF treatment and I really feel for those who do. But if you are going to put every detail of your personal life out there, you have to be prepared for these kind of comments/reactions.
