glass in topsoil - so upset!
We never had a great lawn in the backyard but we recently had to cut down our tree because it was rotten
We want a lawn so the landscaper said he had to put topsoil down first and then seed. He put the topsoil down about a week ago.
We are outside right now and I can see the sun glinting off chunks of GLASS!!!! There is glass mixed in throughout the topsoil - a lot of it!
Is this normal? Do I have a right to be upset? How should I handle this? I am generally really happy with our landscaper.

I would definitely call, especially since its the first time you had a problem, he may not be aware of it and may want to correct it

I would call and demand they remove and replace itl. How are you supposed to walk barefoot in grass ridden with glass. It's a safety hazard. Top soil is supposed to be organics not glass or stone.

DH said to make sure it is glass & not pearlite.
He said landscaper could have bought cheap topsoil from construction debris.
I'd definitely call.

Re: glass in topsoil - so upset!
A supplier in Island Park got busted recently for using mulch or compost or something that had plastic in it and a bunch of other crap.
Like the PP said, make sure it's glass first. Then I'd raise hell.

Re: glass in topsoil - so upset!
Thanks ladies!
It is glass - and some of the chunks are HUGE. If my boys stepped on it,they'd need stitches for sure.
DH called the guy and he was really upset. He said to save the glass. He's going to come over and rake the backyard tomorrow and he is going to bring the glass to the guy he buys his topsoil from and confront him.
DH said the glass looks like it's from broken bottles - he thinks the dirt is from an abandoned lot or something.
I'm upset and grossed out!

Re: glass in topsoil - so upset!
I've had that happen too - not huge pieces, but big enough to be a problem.

Re: glass in topsoil - so upset!
I had that happen too, it was in a raised garden bed so although I cared, there was not enough glass found to make a big deal. Sounds like you got a lot, and its a place that you will be walking on so I would definitely notify them & complain!
