glass top stove question w/pics
We went to PC richards today to look at glass top stoves. Both of us grew up with having a top part to the back of the stove where the controls are. We kinda like the ones with the controls in the front with no back piece. Anyone have one of them? Pros? Cons?

I have one and love it- you can see it in my album picture of my kitchen. I love how streamlined it makes the counters looks. Plus you don't have to lean your arm over pot when you are cooking.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
Growing up the controls were in the front, but on the flat part of the stove. At our house the controls are on the front of the stove next to the oven. I will say that I would rather they be on the stove top flat than next to the oven for safety reasons. DS is almost 2 and can reach them. Although we do have covers for the knobs it is still worrysome.

My mom has one--it's called a slide-in. She has a beautiful backsplash and a wrought iron piece above the stove(where the plate is in the pic). Really upscale looking When we redo our kitchen I will be getting a gas slide-in.
ETA: The new slide-ins have a lock button for child safety

We were between that and the one with the controls on the top part but ended up going with the top controls.. I was afraid I wasnt going to like the look in my kitchen.
I like the look of it though.. just not for me!

I have one! Absolutely love it, I believe it is identical to the black one you posted in the first picture. The one we have is a GE Profile Convection Oven. Was a little more expensive but I love the look and keeps the continuity of the countertops nice and even.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
I hate my glass top stove. It always looks dirty, even after I clean it. I hate how the entire top stays hot after i turn it off (and worry that the cats will jump on it not realizing). I don't think it cooks the food any better or faster either. It also was the catalyst of me burning my face. So, not a fan.
The plus is that it has a smaller coil to use with smaller pots. I also like how the entire panel is electric.
oh, and mine looks like a regular stove, it has the back part. But I don't really care if my countertops have a smooth and continuous look, though. The sink and faucet mess that up anyway

My only concern with the flat one would be that it would be difficult to clean the back wall if food splashes over the back. RIght now I have a flat top with the controls on the back, and PLENTY of times when I am cooking something, it splashes up and gets all over the controls on the back. I pull out the stove to clean the sides, I imagine it would be annoying to pull out the whole thing to clean the wall in back.
ITA. Be ready to have an easily cleanable backsplash.
I grew up with the buttoms on the front and I remember the "do not touch" from my mom to me and my siblings. So it's a concern with kids having access to those nobs.
I do love the look though.
I do have a glass top stove. Like the one you posted in white except I have it in black. You need a special cleaner. I don't use it every night. I clean with regular cleaners usually but it's never completely clean with a regular cleaner. It does not take off the "cooked" stains. Only the special cleaner gets rid of them.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
Hi, I like the look of the black stove you posted but..
I have a glass top white with a traditional back with the timer on it but the heat controls are in front. I was surprised how warm (almost hot) the controls get when the oven is on! especially when i broil something-I need oven mitts to shut it off or need to move quick! oh and the child safety issues.

Mine is backless as well and I love the clean line that it leaves, following the granite countertop. It is also neater for cooking purposes....the knobs do not get the splashes that come from my cooking!

This would be my concern also. DD is 13 months and is already messing with the DW controls, if our stove had knobs in the front, it would be another thing to baby proof.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
My mom has the stove you pictured and the only problem she has is that people lean on it and accidentally turn the stove on.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
We have a slide in (KitchenAid) and I just love the look. We put in a subway tile backsplash which is very easy to clean if we splatter while cooking.
It has a "control lock" so if anyone leans against it, it won't turn the oven or anything else on.

Re: glass top stove question w/pics
We have one with the control sin the back. We bought it because I was pregnant and I didn't want a toddler playing with the oven knobs. Other than that, I would imagine its just a matter of preference and aesthetics.
ETA - Pardon the mess in the picture - it was taken during the renovation process Image Attachment(s):

I have this one in stainless - just an fyi that the knobs are turned up and not flat on the front. Harder to get to for kids.
