Goddess Lakshmi- A little graphic
36 doctors began a 40-hour operation on a 2-year-old born with 8 limbs today in India. Lakshmi, the patient, was born attached to a headless conjoined twin that stopped developing in the womb. Many people in the little girl's village believe she is a reincarnated Hindu goddess. So far her surgery has been going quite well. She has an 80% chance of survival. Doctors have to perform one surgery at a time removing extra limbs, organs and other body parts. Lakshmi's parents kept her in hiding for 2 years, because the circus tried to buy her!

Re: Goddess Lakshmi
I'm actually a little surprised that they "allowed" the limbs to be removed given what they though/think she is.
PS - You may want to put a warning in the title that there's a semi-graphic picture in here.

Re: Goddess Lakshmi
YIKES! I saw a video of her this morning (but you couldn't see all of the limbs very well). She seems like a very happy child, fussy and antsy like any little kid.
I wonder how she pees...

Re: Goddess Lakshmi- A little graphic
That is so sad, that people would try to take her for the circus. I heard about her yesterday in the news, I hope the surgery goes well and she is able to lead a normal life.

I saw her on the news last night, glad to hear that the surgery is going well.
Hopefully she recovers well and is able to lead a normal life. It's horrible that the circus wanted to buy her!!

Nothing I've read said that the PARENTS believed this, just that some people in their village thought this... so I assume that's why they want her to have the surgery and be able to lead a normal life.

Re: Goddess Lakshmi- A little graphic
I actually heard this on Howard of all places first....
This poor little girl - I can't believe she lived this long with her limbs like this.... I hope she can lead a normal life...
Looking at the pictures, not to be gross, but how does she go to the bathroom? It looks like there are limbs where her vagina would be! And her bottom looks like its affected as well....
also, I can't help but think because her limbs are there, will she have problems with her reproductive system when she gets older? Not to have a baby, but just with other things like menstruation, etc - it looks like they will have to move her organs around to get them where they should be!!!!

Re: Goddess Lakshmi- A little graphic
Update-
2-year-old Lakshmi had a successful operation that started yesterday. Over 30 doctors worked together to remove extra limbs and organs from Lakshmi. Doctors worked on Lakshmi for 27-hours and said her surgery was very successful. She will be in intensive care at least 2 days. The surgery cost $625,00 and was paid for by the hospital foundation in India. Doctors believe she will be able to live a normal life. Lakshmi's father said, "We are very grateful to all the doctors for seeing our plight and deciding to help us"
