Unfortunately no. There has to be one male and one female if you were to have two godparents.

Re: Godparents question: I am a Catholic but not sure about this?

My son was baptized at St. Pat's RC Church in Bay Shore.. He has 2 godmother's but only ONE is official and on the certificate. The other is kind of honorary. We were advised that you only NEED one Godparent (male or female) and that if you choose 2 it should be one of each sex. We wound up with 3 - 2 godmothers and 1 godfather.

I think you can because my niece has two godfathers - my husband and his brother. My SIL cleared it with her church and priest.

Are they both on the baptismal certificate? I think you can only choose 1 male and/or 1 female name (you don't need both) to put on the card so essentially only 1 of each gender would be recognized by the church.

I believe in the Episcopalian church you have 2 godmothers for a girl and 2 godfathers for a boy. Our friends just baptised their DD and my DH is her godfather and she has 2 godmothers as well. As for whether or not both of their names are one the baptismal cert., I'm not sure.

Re: Godparents question: I am a Catholic but not sure about this?

Technically, no. They will only put one Godparent of each sex on the Baptismal Certificate. However, my daughter still has 2 godmothers. Only one of them is officially on the Baptismal Certificate, but they were both allowed to stand up with us at the ceremony- they referred to SIL as a "Catholic Witness". We just plan to tell our daughter that my sis & SIL are her godparents- it doesn't matter to us what is "technically" on the certificate.

Re: Godparents question: I am a Catholic but not sure about this?

i was told yes. that's what we want to do for this baby. only one name will go on the certificate with the godfather. the other will be honorary, but we will consider both just as important.
