Going Cold Turkey or Little at a Time?
My gf's dh is trying to stop smoking (not cigarettes- ) and he told her that he is not sure if he can stop cold turkey. She told him that is the only way but I told her that might not work for him.
Which do you think is better?

I went for a year without smoking using Zyban (Wellbutrin).

I quit cold turkey. It's been about 10 years...
If he really is ready, he will be able to do it.
Ironically, I found it harder to quit cigarettes. Go figure?

Same here, I actually had just bought a large bag and decided I really don't want to do this anymore and gave the bag to a friend.
He does have to be ready to do it though - it can be very psychologically addicting.

i would say cold turkey. from what i have read, studies have shown that it is in no way physically addicting, just psychologically. worked for me (not that i had a choice - i am allergic).

DH went cold turkey. Not anywhere near as hard as quitting cigarettes.

Def. cold turkey. Gradual just doesn't cut it. I've seen so many friends and coworkers try to quit and cold turkey was the only way for them. The ones who didn't do CT end up going back to social smoking too easily.

the only reason he "couldn't" stop cold turkey is because he doesn't want to.

It being all in his head doesn't make it any easier to quit. Why are we downplaying psychological addiction?
Honestly... if he's smoking so much that quitting is a problem, he needs counseling - stat.

I quit smoking both cold turkey. MJ was much easier to stop. And I felt so much better within a week or 2.
