Going to a 'beauty school' for haircut and color?
someone suggested this to me and i am very hesitant but i looked the website for long island beauty school and OMG the prices are dirt cheap, $20 for highlights?!.
has anyone done it before? is the instructor there with them the whole time? i might give it a try if there is literally an instructor guiding them through it and watching them.

I've experienced this as the stylist in training and as a model. I would only be hesitant with highlights only because of bleeding of the bleach if your hand is not steady, you put too much highlighting cream in the foil and you don't place the foil close to the scalp as well as the cream. It's just too much of a worry for the model IMO. A haircut, blowout and single process color is worth it in my opinion. Instructors will be there to help them they will stop cutting and ask if they aren't sure. Just be prepared to sit for awhile...

I agree about the highlights. Bleach can really ruin your hair.
I was going to a stylist who WASN'T in school and had been working for years and she still stunk with highlights and destroyed my hair as a result.
I wouldn't screw around with that.

My little sister is a stylist - So, I'm baised of course - she's awesome .......but she had to learn somewhere, and although she's incredibly talented, I woulnd't want to be the live manequin for the crew she went to 'beauty school' with - for every ONE talent, there are 15 total disasters.

My friend is a student at Paul Mitchell at Roosevelt Field and she says so many people come because it is so inexpensive. I would be hesitant more for a hair cut, I think color would be ok because can't you just dye it back if you dont like it?
