Golf Help- Update...had my first lesson!!! Update #2

I am planning on taking some lessons to surprise DH...probably at Heartland in Deer Park (unless anyone has better suggestions)

I need to buy a set of starter type clubs...and I have no idea what is good

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Update!!

Had my first lesson today!! I was pretty proud of myself!!! Hardest part is staying loose!

And, who knew golf was so much work? I was sweating Chat Icon , and I have blisters on my fingers Chat Icon Chat Icon

*****Update #2*******

He knows!!! I have no poker face!! Chat Icon He was questioning me b/c he said he could tell I looked guilty about something and I broke down and told him Chat Icon

But, he was very impressed and so excited!!! We are going to the driving range later so I can show him my new skills Chat Icon

Re: Golf Help

I bought a cheap set of Lady Wilsons (I think that's what they are) years ago at the golf store at the mall in Hicksville. I think I just had to buy a putter.

They were fine for the different times I took lessons and few times I actually went out with DH (but now they collect dust and spider webs in the basement).

Re: Golf Help

Are you planning on continuing to play or is this just a one time thing?

if you intend on playing and making it a regular thing, I suggest you go to a pro-golf shop and get fitted for clubs. Chat Icon

well, that's the thing...I'm planning to play with DH as much as we can, but what if I hate it?

I can't really imagine that I will, I've played before, but never "for real"...

So I don't want to spend $$$$$$$

Ii I really like it I will upgrade later

Re: Golf Help

I know NOTHING about golf but I did a quick search on Craigslist and there are a few sets of Ladies clubs with bags for sale...from $125-$150. Maybe you can go that route first and if you decide that you like golf, get a new set

Re: Golf Help

Dicks Sporting Goods has Ladies Clubs .... and I think they have sales pretty often.

And I think they have a little area where you can try them out and take practice swings with them? Chat Icon

Re: Golf Help

You could go to a pro shop and get fitted for a set but you're going to wind up spending a lot of money on clubs.

I would suggest going to Golfsmith, they're in Commack on Jericho Turnpike. They have guys there who can fit you for a set and they have a wider variety of price points. Plus, they have a "used club" section which is good b/c you can get a club that would normally cost hundreds for a lot less.

I would suggest going for a lower end club and seeing first how you like golf before you make the investment in a nice set.

If you have any other questions, FM me. My husband makes golf clubs, he's very informed. I could get more info for you.

FTR, I think it's really great that you're taking an interest in golf. I got into it about 10 years ago and it was one of the best things I did!

I love going out on the course with my DH but I LOVE even more, going out by myself!! It's such a relaxing thing for me to do, plus I'm like the belle of the ball! You don't see too many lady golfers out there.

Good luck and I hope you get bit by the golf bug!!!

Thanks!!!

Golfsmith is right near me, so I will check it out tomorrow!!

Do you know if there is a certain brand (lower end) that is better than others, or its just preference?

Honestly, it comes down to feel. Hold the club in your hands, swing it. If it feels good, go for it.

Re: Golf Help

i got my set of ladies clubs from Target. they're Wilson. they're not anything that a pro would use, but they're a good name, and they're respectable. and very reasonable at around $160 for the whole set + bag

Re: Golf Help

Check to see if the place that gives the lessons has clubs for you to use. We just bought my Dad lessons and I know when I was researching, one or two places we looked at (all Nassau County) had clubs you could use.

Oh that's cool, he's going to love that!

Try to keep it a secret. Honestly, I found golf to be a fairly easy sport to pick up and after a couple of sessions on the driving range, putting and chipping green I was out and playing.

Just remember play YOUR game. Don't look at what other people do. Keep your head down, make solid contact and LET HER RIDE!!!
