GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO PASTA?
I'm trying to lay off the carbs a little bit but I love my spaghetti and sauce - any good altertnatives out there that I could actually serve with sauce??

Spaghetti squash!!!! I use it just like pasta. poke a few holes in it and bake at like 375 for an hour or a bit more. cut open & shred with a fork. Cover with sauce and cheese. Perfect substitute.

Dream Fields isa great pasta--it has the lowest glycemic index (I know this bc my mom is type 2 diabetes and has to watch).
It is very good too! They sell it at all the major supermarkets.
It IS still pasta, but better for you

I second the spaghetti squash - I regularly substitute it for pasta and even my non-veggie eating, pasta loving friend enjoys it with regular sauce or any pasta topper.

I actually like to use pasta and marinara sauces on my baked chicken too! Then I just make veggies as a side. DH doesn't seem to notice when there isn't a starch.

I third spaghetti squash and also i totally agree with Dreamfields pasta. That is actually all we eat in my house. Yes it's a little pricey but it's worth it in my opinion.

I had broccoli once w/ sauce on it - didn't do much for me but it was served.
Maybe do a stewed veges - not really sauce but as a side dish?
I roasted a portabella mushroom (rubbed a little garlic on it), filled it with breaded chicken, topped w/ sauce and motz. cheese...that was yum-o!

I swear by dreamfields pasta too. You cant even taste the difference. It's all we eat.

spaghetti squash is so delicious. i love it with a little butter and toasted pine nuts too. mmm i'm gonna buy some tomorrow!
