Re: Good/Bad foods

My dr says no:
hotdogs
cold cuts
keilbasa
tuna fish
sushi
diet soda

I think compared to a lot of girls my dr is kind of strict bc a lot of people are allowed to have these things in moderation. Mine said none at all for the entire pregnancy, I've snuck a few things here and there especially this past weekend Chat Icon

Def ask your dr though, everyones a little different, GL!!

Re: Good/Bad foods

As Carissa said every dr. is totally different. Mine said everything in moderation. never gave me a list. Just specifically said limit tuna to once or twice a week tops.

I do eat cold cuts from a reputable, busy deli.

Re: Good/Bad foods

My dr was pretty lenient.

Cold cuts from reputable places, if you buy them sliced to make sandwiches at home - you must eat within 4 days.

No soft cheeses (I have had fresh mozzarella a couple of times though).

No diet soda unless I really have to.

No raw fish - but, if I really have to, don't do it often and make sure it's from a reputable place.

One cup of caffeine a day.

One tunafish sandwich a week.

ETA - I have found though that everywhere I go the food police are around me to make sure I'm not eating/drinking the wrong things.

Re: Good/Bad foods

my dr says everything in moderation.

I have one cup of coffee a day (this is my 2nd preg and decided not to give up caffeine)

I have one cup of diet coke a day

i eat turkey and cheese cold cuts (thats pretty much it)

I eat feta and bleu cheese as long as i know it is pasteurized

i eat tuna fish but rarely.

Re: Good/Bad foods

my OB basically said no soft cheeses (meaning nothing un pasteurized. i'll eat it if the packaging says pasteurized).

she also mentioned no sushi, and to limit tuna, which is fine because i rarely eat fish while pregnant Chat Icon

and no alcohol (which i also didn't listen to once i was out of my first trimester. with DS i had one drink every few weeks when i really felt like it and he is totally fine.

Re: Good/Bad foods

My doctor said no to hot dogs and cold cuts, but he said if I have to, in moderation and low sodium.

He also said no raw fish, or tuna and if I want shellfish, it needs to be very well cooked.

He said limit caffeine to one cup a day. He didn't say anything about diet soda. I know that with another pregnancy I had GD and they let me have diet soda.

Re: Good/Bad foods

Like others have said, you have to asked your Dr bc it differs from Dr to Dr.

Mine was pretty leniant too. She told me to limit my intake of tuna bc of the higher mercury levels.

I was also told to stay away from artificial sweeteners & caffeine. Otherwise, I was told everything in moderation. I have followed that throughout my entire pregnancy without trouble.

Re: Good/Bad foods

The only thing I was told was no aspartame (artificial sweetener). I have it once in awhile anyway, though and so far so good.Chat Icon
