Good book to read during summer school
I am looking for a good book to read during surmmer school. I teach a middle/high school life skills class. The students in this class have a wide variety of disabilities but have a pretty good sense of humor! Last year I read some of the Ramona books to them. During the school year, they really loved Hank Zipzar books. I was thinking about Diary of a worm books. What do u all think? Any other suggestions??

I dont know if this is age appropriate but I loved the Fudge books by Judy Blume as a kid. (Super Fudge was the name of one of them  )

I actually did that 2 years ago :) The kids loved those too :) Unfortunately though, some of these kids I have in summer school I have had for the past 4 years so I don't want to repeat anything!

do you mean diary of a wimpy kid? (worm is a picture book) That might be cute since they made a movie about it.
What about the Strange Case of the Origama Yoda. It's actually about 6th grade, but the reading level is lower.

Have you done desperaux with them? Edward Tulane is great too (although no movie), but if you've done desperaux, you could do an author study of Kate dicamillo.

I think Kate DiCamillo is too difficult for them. The first year I taught them I did because of winn dixie and that was way too difficult for them!

johanna hurwitz has some great ones, but the characters are in elementary school, usually. would that be an issue?
my special ed. kids loved Class Clown.

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) cute and funny book and the kids got a huge kick out of the movie!
