Good books to read for a new, 1st time mom?

Hi...crashing from pregnancy board.
Due in June and just looking for some of the BTDT Mom's favorite new parent books to read...I have none. Lots of my friends say to get some on good sleep habits....

Please share your favorite books - and ones you found most helpful.

TIA!

ETA: and tell me when exactly a new mom will have time to read these books? Chat Icon

My favorite is the What to Expect First Year book- I've referred to it zillions of times! Also, my mom got me this health book which is AMAZING! SOOO thorough and has really helped save me a lot of phone calls and trips to the dr.! My mom apparently had the very same book when she had all of us as babies and said it was like her health bible. So when I was pregnant, she found the updated version and got it. I HIGHLY reccommend it! GL!!

Re: Good books to read for a new, 1st time mom?

Someone gave me What to Expect the First Year. It was okay, I refer to it now and again for milestones and such, but find the same and better info on the internet.

But, can I recommend DVDs:

Happiest Baby on the Block
(actually there is also a book)
This is our Bible.

Dunsten Baby Language
Although there is probably enough info on it on the internet, the DVD is only a few min long, not quite worth the price, but I found it helpful. I know can discern every cry my newborn makes and act appropriately.

Oh and if you plan on breastfeeding, a book called "Breastfeeding made Simple" is the best.

ETA: if you are breastfeeding, I did a lot of reading and net surfing during feedings. My DC lived breast-side for weeks.Chat Icon

I loved "Baby 411". It was a good reference book in those first few months. I never read any parenting/baby book straight through. I read what was applicable to me at the time and I referenced them as need be. Chat Icon

My new-mom friend highly recommends Secrets of the Baby Whisperer and Happiest Baby on the Block. She says these are must-reads!

I also have Girlfriends' Guide to the First Year of Motherhood which I find informative, and very funny.

happiest baby on the block and baby 411 were good (we have toddler 411 too). i forgot which sleep books i read, but they just gave me ideas; i didn't follow them exactly. i think one was no cry sleep solution.
