Good dog gone bad
Holden has been acting up a bit lately and I can't figure out why - mostly, he's his usual happy self but when I leave the house, he goes under the bed and refuses to come out. He sleeps under the bed at night and sometimes during the day but when DH and I go out, we leave the dogs in the kitchen/hallway and close off the rest of the house (they have plenty of room, their beds, water, toys, and Holden has a crate with no front and a blanket that he likes to sleep in). I've tried my best Cesar impression - no good, I've ignored him and gone downstairs - no good, I've tried to coax him out with treats - nothing. We even bought some new toys - nothing. The other day, I shut the bedroom door then went back in 10 minutes later and he was still under the bed! I wonder if he senses that I am going back to work soon (I teach) or my pregnancy - or if he is just being bad? He is not doing this to DH, just me. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.

Re: Good dog gone bad
First of all, I didn't know you were pg! Congrats!!!
Second...was he one of your rescues? Maybe something happened and he is regressing? Or maybe senses your pg? How far along are you?
My girl dog does this. She has a fear streak that comes and goes, and sometimes something sets her off and she does things like this. Or when she doesn't want to go outside, she will go under the table and hide. Or if she hears fireworks or a loud noise, she may then do this for weeks.
Could it be fear related? Did anything happen at all that might have frightened him?

Re: Good dog gone bad
I totally believe that the dog can sense you're pregnant or sense a difference in your routine if you have one... my dog hates to be put in her crate, she doesn't fight so much but she runs under the chaise lounge sofa type thing in my bedroom (used to be the bed but we blocked it off with boxes, she got creative lol) when she sees both of us getting ready at the same time, she assumes we're going to leave soon and thinks we'll forget she's there lol.
The only thing that works for us is we pretend to leave (walk downstairs, open and close the door - lock it if she doesn't come right away) and then wait there and see if she comes out. Almost every time, she does, she thinks we left and then gets nervous or wants to make sure. Then we throw her butt in the crate lol... after hugs and kisses of course. So, maybe try the fake-out-and-leave as we call it? haha
Congrats as well on being pregnant!

Re: Good dog gone bad
Lilly started acting out when I first got pregnant (and it lasted until I was well into my second trimester), so I'm betting that's what your pup is doing. After a few months, she settled back into her old self and her old habits, but there was DEFINITELY something different about her when was pregnant in the beginning.
I'm hoping Holden comes back around for you!

Congratulation on your pregnancy!!
I can only say I have heard that dogs can sense your pregnant.. Lola had no idea.. she was always the same (except when the big surprise came home).. Thats a whole other story..
I dont see is as being "bad" I feell like he got spooked or does sense your hormones changing.. To me thats amazing if he can!!! Just try to be calm and of course patient.. Maybe you can cuddle with him more and love him up even more.. I am sure thats hard with the other two..
I can only tell you what I have been through after the baby came home.. If you need anything please FM Me. Anytime!! Good luck!

Thanks so much, everyone. He isn't usually fearful but that is a possibility. I appreciate your ideas and feedback - will try some of your ideas. Thanks

Shanti, I dont know if you know but I recently had a baby too and can help you in anyway. Considering my dogs don't do well with children overall, things have been pretty good. FM me if you want to chat.

Thank you .. Its just exhausting for me.. I have to give Lola so much attention too.. So when the baby is sleeping I cant sleep because i am playing hide annd seek with Lola or just taking her out, picking her up and kissing her for 10 min.. its exhausting.. She is very very needy but its all my fault.. I treated her like a baby for 3 yrs what did I expect.. I needed her when I was lonely and going through IF.. So now I can just ignore her.. She just started showing signs of liking the baby.. she will let the babies leg rest on her if i am nursing now.. before the baby could not touch her or be near her.. She licks the babies feet now too I love them both so much.. But i must admitt in the begining I was on a guilt trip.. Now its so much better. HTH
