Good People in this world
I just wanted to share a story and give some credit to a local business that really stepped up last night. I was walking back to my car in Target parking lot last night when I saw a little face peeking out from under my car, it was the cutest little kitten. Mind you, this was in the middle of the lot, there is NO WAY this little guy strolled out of the woods or anything like that. I was in AWE of him, so tiny and cute and when I got close to him, he walked straight to me straight into my hands. When I picked him up, my heart broke. He was a tiny little thing of bones and his left eye was completely closed, the right eye was red and infected but not closed. He was raspy and ill. I called the town animal shelter and they were closed but animal control picked up. They said that VMCLI would take him in if he was sick. I put the little guy in my lap and went to VMCLI but they turned him away saying that he was too sick for them to take in and that I should put him in a box and drop him off in front of Petco!! Really? I was appalled. One of the girls commented that Petco wasn't in a good area and that I should just leave him in the woods. I left there crying because this little guys was so sweet, I knew that I could NOT under any circumstances just dump him. I would have kept him myself but my DH is recovering from heart surgery and suffers from severe life-threatening respiratory ailments so a pet at this time is out of the question. Someone suggested that I take a ride over to Animal Pantry in W. Babylon and that they would take him in. VMCLI gave me a blanket, box and two cans of cat food so I figured i'd give it a try. The staff at Animal Pantry was immediately concerned for this little guy and just shocked that VMCLI would just let him go. They commented that he clearly wouldn't survive much longer in his condition. Even though they were overwhelmed and at full capacity with cats, they agreed to take him in. I left their bawling both because I felt bad for this little guy and I was just overwhelmed with love for the people at Animal Pantry. They really stepped up and I feel they should be acknowledged.
I am going to call today and see if I can pay for some food and care for him, I don't know what else to do but I just wanted to ask that if anyone here has to purchase any cat food or litter, pet supplies in the next few days, please buy it from them if it's in your area. They truly are GOOD people and really deserve your business.
I'm trying to attach a pic of the little guy, he's SUCH a cutie. If any of you know someone who may be looking for a kitten, please pass the word on. He is an adorable little guy, so sweet and cuddled right into my neck. Once his infection is cleared up, he will make a great pet.
Thanks for reading, sorry it was so long but I wanted to share.
Just ETA their info: Animal Pantry 620 Sunrise Hwy West Babylon, NY 11704 (631) 983-8347

Re: Good People in this world
OMG! That kitty reminds me of Sparky
Sparky was our kitten for 6m. He died of an infection and growth on his intestines. I posted about it back on LIW. My tag line on LIW Still says "Goodbye Sparky". When he died my husband cried and the house was so silent (even tho we have another cat at the time). It was heart breaking. It took us months to recover from his loss.
I really hope he pulls through and finds a good home.

Awww this is so nice to see. Kudos to you for driving all over the place to make sure the kitty was taken care of! I'm really surprised they wouldn't take in the kitten in the first place. Too sick? Sounds exactly like the condition we found a kitten in years and years ago. One eye shut, the other crusty and red. I carried him home in my coat pocket and gave him to a friend who nursed him back to health with eyedrops and a bottle since he was too little for regular food. He still has the cat to this very day!

Good People in this world
You're amazing!
And I am shocked at VMCLI. I brought a cat there last week that wandered into my mom's yard and was on it's death bed. They took it in and said they most likely would have to put it down but did it at no cost to be because the animal wasn't mine. Maybe they thought it would survive?

Re: Good People in this world
So nice to hear, and thank you for having a heart and doing the right thing!
i think a lot of people would have either left the cat there, or dumped him in the woods
hopefully someone adopts that little cutie soon

Re: Good People in this world
First of all- who the fudge suggests leaving a sick, young animal in the woods???? That's disgusting to know this is the kind of advise these people are giving out.
Second- for you for having such concern for the little guy and making sure he got the right care.
I really hope he gets better and finds a great home!
