I once ate at Oyster something....Oyster Pond Inn...something like that...it wasn't fancy, but the food was yummy...I remember enjoying the wine more then anything else!

Oo yeah! That place is good!!!!
The Shagwong is good too! The bar gets pretty noisy but there is a separate restaurant in the back. Lots of people bring children there! Have fun!
Montauk is my favorite getaway!

Gosman's dock is great in the summer, if you like lobster. They have a counter where you order and pick up your food then eat at tables outside. You can watch the boats go in and out of the canal- it's nice.
I think there's a restaurant connected to them that's year round, but not sure... I've never gone there any time but in the summer.

Dave's Grill in Montauk Harbor is very good. It may not be a great place to take kids though. Murphy's Irish Pub in town is very good too and you can take kids there. Harvest is good, family style but load and trendy. Duryea's is off the beaten path - it's like a fish house...there is no table service but it overlooks the pond on a deck and you can bring your own wine. Shagwong is kid friendly but does get loud later on at night.

If you go out for breakfast, I would skip town and go down to Salivar's in the harbor. You usually don't have to wait for a table and the breakfast food is just as good.

I have spent a lot of time in Montauk, so feel free to ask away.

We have 3 kids and are definitely "regulars" at Murphy's Irish Pub. Good food, atomosphere is good for kids (a screamng kid can compete with screaming sports fans as they watch sports on all the flat screens)

The docks have good places to eat, but don't go to The Dock b/c he doesn't let kids in, if I remember correctly. For a nicer dinner, The Harvest is great. How about Rick's Crabby Cowboy Cafe?

Am I mistaken or is Gosmans Dock now gone? A friend of mine in NYC told me that it was torn down this summer.

I could be wrong...
I love montauk. Love it.

The Dock allows kids, but there are signs all over the place "reminding parents" to control their kids if they become unruly.

Great food there

Corinne, when are you going? A LOT of places are closed this time of year.

Oyster Pond is wonderful (but closed)
Harvest may be open and is ehh in my opinion.
O'Murphy's is great and is open.
We love Lenny's on the Dock, but it may be closed as well.

After March things start to open up again.

Oh and I hate Shagwong.

2 years ago we ate at Shagwong and thought it was not great

We did eat at the Inlet w/ friends and their kids last summer. The kids had pasta from the kids menu.

Re: good restaurants to eat at in montauk

Well i grew up in montauk so here is what i would suggest and to clear some things up:

-Gosmans is still there. It hasn't been torn down and wasn't bought for yachts. However it is closed for the season.

-Oyster Pond is closed for the season.

-Lennys is closed for the season.

-Shagwong is okay, but its a huge local bar hangout so i'd skip it with kids.

-Omurphys pub is an excellent choice for kids because they have everything from burgers, salads, mozzerella sticks, pasta, etc.

-Harvest is excellent, but its family style and it all depends on how old the children are.

-ENE is excellent, but its family style and not so much kid friendly (depending on the age).

-I'd skip salivars for breakfast (no offense). It's not the cleanest there and its also the main place where everyone goes after a night of drinking.

-Otherwise there is always Pizza Village which has some booths to sit down and eat dinner. Always kid friendly there.

Again it depends on the age of the children.

Also when are you going? Soon or the summer?

As Aliwnec said...there's not a lot open this time of year.

Shagwong (ehhh)
O'Murphy's (not bad...good pub food)
The Montauket (pretty good food)
John's Pancake House (Love this place)
Crow's Nest (pretty good)
Trail's End (I like this place)

Most of the rest are closed until late March (they open for the parade and the food is usually terrible) or early April.

The Harvest is my ALL TIME FAVORITE restaurant!

yeah, IL's love that place.

they also own another restaurant (asian fusion) and supposed to be GREAT - east northeast or something??

it is right near the harvest - up the road just a wee bit and on the left.

we *LOVED* manucci's - the italian restaurant on the right hand side about a mile before you get down by the water and the dock area.

hth!

the other restaurant that Harvest owns is ENE. East by Northeast. It's diagonal from the ball field. It's very good, but expensive and as i mentioned i don't believe they have any high chairs or anything like that. But it is excellent!

Manucci's is also good.
