Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
Anyone have any experience with this 3 in 1 room? I've heard mixed feelings about this for a different hospital though. We're using good sam in west islip, just checking your reviews or feelings on this hospital and or this labor/delivery/recovery room because I know this 3 in 1 room is a kind of new concept. TIA!

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
I didn't know about that...do I have to be in the same room as other delivering women? Or is it your OWN room for all three?
If it's your own room I wouldn't care.

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
From what I understand, its your own room, but that was in a hospital in Huntington. So, I really don't know how good sam does it, I would assume the same way, unless someone knows better.

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
Good Sam has, I believe 7, Labor/Delivery/Recovery Rooms. It is your own private suite with a bathroom, flat screen TV, your own temp. control, & a recliner for DH. I think that they are really nice. This is where everything happens. After the baby is delivered, you will be sent to the maternity floor. That floor I am not looking foward to. I heard it can be hot & crowded on that floor!

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
Im not sure what your asking? You labor and then deliver in the same room if its a vaginal birth. Recovery is really just cleaning you up, getting vitals etc and then you are taken to your room. What do you mean a new concept?
Unlessby recovery you mean you stay in the room you labor in for your entire stay. If thats what your saying, no thats not the case.
If you have a C-section, its all seperate rooms obviously.

Well that sounds great, espcially for my DH if I deliver on a sunday during football playoffs lol. I wonder how those 7 rooms dont get filled so quickly. Do you know if you have to pay extra or is it just first come first serve?

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
6th floor is labor and delivery rooms... they are private!
5th floor is where teh nursery is and maternity rooms... thats where you will stay after you deliver and recover. there are a few private rooms... the rest are double rooms. I have only been on the 6th floor so far... my experience was good so far... but i didnt labor... i was in for being sick and having contractions!
Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure what I'm asking either lol. I just read it in a pamphlet my dr gave me for good sam.

I think it just works out. I know they do also have separate rooms, if they do fill up, for the labor part, than the delivery, and recovery but that is rare - only if the suites fill up. I learned all about this through the lamaze course offered at Good Sam & on the hospital tour.
The one thing that is first come first serve, is the private room on the maternity wing. You also have to pay extra for that room if it is available - over $200 per night.

You dont stay in the same room that you L & D.... you recover for about an hour after for a vag birth in that room.... then after you are taken downstairs!

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
With ds I was induced. I went to the hospital and they put me in the l&d room. I was there while I labored, for delivery and for an hour after ds was born. They sewed me up and then I got to hold ds for like 45minutes to an hour while they got a room for me. Then ds went to the nursery to get cleaned, weighed and checked out and I went to my new room.
The l&d room is private but have a very uncomfortable bed since it comes apart. They remove the bottom section when you push. There are monitors in there, a tv and a private bathroom with shower. There is also a small section with a curtain that they hide all the delivery equipment behind. It is supposed to feel like you are not in a hospital but lets face it that would be next to impossible.
I had a good experience. The nurses were great and I even took pics with my delivery nurse.

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
i was on the L&D floor for 2 days a few weeks back. and you start laboring in a reg. room (not all are private) i was in with another woman who was actively laboring. once she got to 4cm they moved her across the hall to a labor room. where im assuming she stayed till after the baby came. but there is a good possibility you will be in a double room for a while.

Re: Good Sam Labor/Delivery/Recovery Room
you can pay extra for a private room??/ maybe that is new, acouple of years ago that option was not there just know it is crowded! i heard they have redone the rooms this past year so maybe it is better. Would rather deliver at SouthSide but GS has an excellent NICU unit
