Good Sam moms....

We just went for our hospital tour last night, and the rooms seem so small! Also, every room was booked, so what happens if that is the case and you have your baby? Where do they put you? Now I am getting nervous about my hospital stay on top of everything else! Chat Icon Any experience would be very helpful!

I just wanted to say that I was there last night also, and I left feeling uncomfortable. Maybe it was just the day, but I felt like everything was very chaotic. The maternity floor looked like a zoo, and I agree I couldn't believe how small the shared rooms were. I also turned to my husband and said "if all the rooms are full where is the next girl who is in labor going?". I was really hoping to walk out with a good feeling!

Re: Good Sam moms....

My friend gave birth there last may & it was booked. She had to be out in a room on a separate floor from the nursery for 1 night.

I am delivering there also

Re: Good Sam moms....

The overflow if the 5th floor is booked goes to the 4th floor. If you go to the 4th floor you would ONLY be placed with another maternity patient and NOT near anyone sick...they are at the other end of the floor. They also try to leave you in L & D until something clears out on the 5th floor. I had both my DC there and both experience were WONDERFUL. Dont worry it all works out. Chat Icon

Well, that makes me feel better! I hope it is not packed when I am there, but it probably will be bc so many people are due at the same time!

Same thing happened to my girlfriend last year....She was on a separate floor when she finally got a room. Can you go to Southside?

I had my first baby at Good Sam and 2nd at Southside. The nurses and doctor's are wonderful at Good Sam, but the rooms are small, not every room has a bathroom and the floor was always packed. I was left in the recovery room for 12 hours. I went to Southside for my 2nd and it was the best experience ever! The rooms were fantastic, the nurses were phenominal, the whole vibe on in the maternity ward was just pure joy. I didn't even know I was in the maternity ward at Good Sam,,,it was just a blah feeling. If you can go to Southside, I highly recommend it.

Either way,,your baby and you are in good hands because the doctor's and nurses are great at Good Sam

Re: Good Sam moms....

Now I am really confused! Should I do Southside or Good Sam? I am not sure if my doc will go to Southside, unless i have a scheduled Csection, though.

If I remember correctly from a past conversation, you are at SouthBay right? I was just asking them last week about their delivery hospital and they said it is always Good Sam unless you have a scheduled c-section to get your tubes tied, then you have to go to Southside. I am not as far along, so I am trying to decide if I want to switch doctors.

This is true! After touring both hospitals, I was set on delivering at South Side. But SouthBay only delivers at Good Sam unless there is a scheduled C-section. SO, my next step was to find a new OB.....I went to an appointment and the care was not the same as SouthBay. So, in the end, I have decided to stick with SouthBay and deliver at Good Sam - and I have heard only good things about that hospital from people that I know who have delivered there!!

From my experience of trying to switch doctors (just to go to South Side) wasn't worth it! I feel as though the care from a doctor is more important than making a decision regarding where to deliver. Both hospitals are fine and when I think about it....we're only going to be there a short stay! Hope this helps!

Yeah-- I love South Bay, so I am not switching docs (especially at this point - I am almost 35 weeks!) I just wish I could go to Southside. I will try begging and pleading, but I doubt anything will change. I will go to Good Sam and deal. I just hope I don't have a C, so I am out in 48 hours. I also hope I don't get stuck with a room without a bathroom! If that happens, the nurses will suffer more than I will bc I will b**** the entire time!

Re: Good Sam moms....

I delivered at good Sam 2 years ago. I had a C-section. I wasnt that fond of it to be honest. I was like a zoo. I also hated my roommates, but thats not the hospital's fault.

This time around I will be delivering at Southside, but thats because I am having a scheduled c-section and getting my tubes tied. I also go to Southbay OBG. Im most likely sure the reason im going to southside is becuase of the tubes tied and the c section part.

I toured southside 2 weeks ago and it seemed awesome. Very quiet, there was a lot of empty rooms. I hope its like that when I get there in 3 months. My luck there will be a baby boom.

Maybe ask your doc. and tell him that you arent fond of Good Sam.

I have never seen any rooms not have a bathroom. Chat Icon I delivered there twice and many friends have as well. I am pretty familiar with the maternity floor so if I were you I wouldnt worry. Chat Icon The nurses were all great too! Enjoy your next few weeks before the baby comes and try not to stress over the hospital! Chat Icon
