Tarrytown is very cute and has a lot of Halloween stuff going on as it was the home of Washington Irving.

If you want to go a smidge beyond the W'chester border into Putnam, Cold Spring is an adorable little town. There are several antique shops, which I love to poke around in. Lots of other shops as well, and many dining choices. DH and I like the Cold Spring Depot, which is pretty casual, and Le Bouchon is a great little bistro. There are a few other places we haven't tried. Boscobel Restoration is a couple miles down the road- it's a Federal-era restored mansion. I've actually never been inside for fear my daughter would break something, but they do tours and have exhibits. The grounds are gorgeous with a great view of the Hudson. The Hudson Valley Shakepeare Festival is held there every summer- one of these days I hope to see the inside of the house. Chat Icon

Well, we started in Tarrytown, drove a bit to Irvington to see the Sleepy Hollow area, then headed over the bridge and drove and wound up at Bear Mountain for Oktoberfest!!! We did a little hiking and just loved it! And in all honesty, it was only about 35 minutes away from us in Queens! Chat Icon

Tarrytown is a good for a day trip.

If you go up a little further, there's Cold Spring and then just a bit further (maybe 20 minutes) is Beacon, which is becoming well known for its emerging art community.

I don't suggest doing Beacon on Sunday though - too many places close down on Main Street.
