Good website to search universal preK schools
Can anyone recommend a site to search on? I posted on Teachers board as well but had no replies.
I would imagine it is the same site as the puiblic schools, i don't know...

Re: Good website to search public preK schools
I don't really understand what public pre-k schools are. You mean as part of your own school system.? I guess you would have to call your own district to see if they provide that service. My district does not, but the do offer universal pre-k so they pay for his pre-k program.

Re: Good website to search universal preK schools
NO sense in researching universal pre k. IN my district you enter your child in a lottery and then the district can choose to accept your child and will then place your child in a program chosen by them. You can accept or decline. You will have to look at the school that they tell you, if they tell you.
MY son wont he lottery, and best yet, they sent him back to the same school that he had already attended in the nursery program. They did try to accomodate in that manner but there were no guarantees.

Re: Good website to search universal preK schools
The reason why I want to research schools is because as I understand, I will have to put 3 or 5 schools down in order of preference and I want to make sure that if he doesn't get into our first choice, the second and third are also decent schools.

IDK, my district does a SCOPE program for 3 year olds and then lottery for UPK for 4 year olds. If they don't get picked for the lottery at 4, they offer scope again.

Re: Good website to search universal preK schools
my understanding of universal pre-k, is it goes by district. the district contratcs with some of the local places for spots in their pre-k classes. (unless they have their own program in house) my district just started doing universal pre-k this past year. they had a total of 58 spots or something, and there were 3or 4 schools you could pick from, and it was a list given by the district. i don't think you just get to pick whatever schools you want and they pay for it. i am sure the districts are getting discounts for taking these spots.
