Public vs. Private schools
I currently teach at a private school. Those of you that moved from private to public, what were the advantages and disadvantages? I'm starting to weigh all of my options. Thanks

Re: Public vs. Private schools
Salary was double to start. Top pay was $40K at the private school (well over $100K in my district). I am now part of a retirement system. Classes are smaller in public school (we have a contract that has a cap). Tenure. More sick days in public. Things I miss about private school: - I have to be at work on time and leave on time, in private school if I was off 9th period, they would tell me to go home. -They gave us $100 bonus for Christmas. -People that worked there were teachers and enjoyed doing it.

Re: Public vs. Private schools
I taught in a catholic school for 3 years before moving to public. The money is the biggest difference. The class sizes are a bit smaller and the parents a little less difficult (although that would depend on the school district). I loved working in a catholic school... i loved the environment...my first year in the public school was a bit of a shock to the system. I found the catholic school to be more friendly, teachers were supportive of each other. The first public school i was in was the opposite...cut throat...most people out for themselves. The school Im in now is much better.
