got a cal from day care.very annoyed and upset(little long)
We registered DD at a daycare August (registration fee and everything) When I spoke to the manager I told her that we were going away for few weeks in September and coming back first week of October, and DD wouldn't be starting daycare until I found a job. She said "as long as we paid a registration fee it would save a spot for us" and to just let them know when we were ready. We came back first week of October and I started looking , but we all know what happened with the economy between July and October so it's very hard to find anything. Today I get a call from her , telling me that there is one spot open for DD , but if don't start soon they are going to give it to someone else I explain the situation to her , so she said that they would save a spot till the end of October and then they would have to give the spot to another child I am confused. I mean I don't expect them to save the spot for us for months and I understand there are other kids who are ready . But they knew exactly what our situation was and they were fine with it, and now all of a sudden it became a big problem. I mean they could at least save the spot till the end of November . We are going to be just fine even if I don't work , but I am just very annoyed . Sorry I just had to vent

I know you're frustrated, and I completely understand why, but from the business perspective, they're just looking to make money and fill their slots. Chances are they already have a wait list, which is why they're eager for you to officially enroll DD. Hopefully you find a position you love soon.

I agree with Nicole.
Will they let you keep a spot on the list for when you do get a job?!

They probably will-a lot of centers give you 2 "declines" before they bump you back to the bottom. So, you could tell them "no" to this spot and ask them to keep you at the top of the list for the next spot.
Like others said, I understand what they are doing from a business perspective even though it's hard on us.

That's frustrating but honestly I think it's nice that they held the spot for you for this time - so essentially there is a spot in the room and no one is paying for it? Sorry they weren't more upfront with you earlier - but I do see their problem.

I understand how frustrating it is, but I do understand their point too. Is there anyway you could put your DC in pt if you don't have a job by the end of Oct? This way you are technically in daycare.

Unfortunately, standard procedure for daycares.
Hopefully they will let you stay at the top of the wait list. From my previous experience (three daycares), you get put on the bottom of the list if you don't take the spot.

Yes its very nice, but as you said it would have been even nicer if they had been upfront with me before I paid $200 registration fee. I don't care if they want to give someone else a spot, b/c they are entitled to do whatever is good for their business ,but the whole point of me registering and paying the fee in August was b/c of what I was told. I was completely honest about the situation and they were fine with it at the time. I am sorry if I sound harsh, it's nothing against you .Believe me I appreciate everyone's opinion

Then this is what I would tell them. I would ask for the money back. Explain that they agreed to it at the time and now they are going back on their words. You can say you understand they need to fill it but you were not told that and will now need them to refund your money.

That's def. a good point - I would ask for the registration refunded unless they can guarantee you the spot when you're ready
