so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. UPDATED at bottom.

So just an update. This is my third unmedicated IUI. I went in yesterday to have my sono and blood work and I had one mature follie but, a negative OPK and negative LH bloodwork. But cm and cramping and other symptoms were totally indicating the bigh O.

So, I wake up this morning and POAS to see a negative OPK. I pointed out that I had a mature follice and my body symptoms are telling me that the big O is near. She says, "no, your not the bloodwork doesn't show a surge". Keep using the OPK's and call us when you get a positive. She said I could do to back to back IUI's if I want but, since I didn't get the positive this morning that she expects I will be in for an IUI on Sunday or Monday. Call them if I get do not get a positive by Monday.

I hung up frustrated. I just know that they are wrong. So, I poas this afternoon around 4pm. Guess what???? A positive OPK!!!!!! GRRR, I am so angry. So I called the office and they are closed for the day. I want the IUI tomorrow. I am so sick of this testing in the AM with first morning urine when everyone knows that LH surge happens in the afternoon. I am convinced that I am catching the tail end of the surge each month by testing in the morning. Then, I get the IUI the next day and I think it is not good timing.

So, now I need to call them at 7:30 am and BEG AND PLEAD for them to do and IUI even though I didn't have one scheduled. I swear I am going to freak out if they don't it. AND I want them to do a second IUI on Sunday. I might have to pull out the bitchyness!!! I just don't understand why they didn't listen to me. I have been doing this in MY BODY for 14 months. I knew the surge was happening today!!!!!!!!! I could just cry. What if they can't do the IUI tomorrow morning?

They do. But they already told me a while back (when I questioned thier policy of having me use the OPK's in the Am rather than the afternoon) that they don't make IUI appointments through the emergency number. I am so upset.

Maybe you should switch RE's...you (obv) don't sound happy with them...and they seem kind of unaccomodating...how big is their practice?

I don't know. My insurance covers this one 100%. I think it is the only place that they cover 100%. It is Rs of NY and is pretty big. So I am staying with them for the time being. I just don't like some of thier ways, you know? Maybe I am too accomadating to them? You know, like squeaky wheel gets the grease. I am like that with a bunch of doctors. I HATE my Ob also. I tend to question doctors and they get annoyed with that. But I don't do it in a confident way so I just get squashed. Chat Icon

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. A little long.

I HATE when doctors rush you through when you have questions. I go to RMA of NJ and I am very happy with them, but I know a lot of girls on here go to RS of NY - why not call your insurance and see who else they cover? I mean, it's so personal and emotional, who wants to put up with the extra crap Chat Icon

I'm sorry you have to deal with this, if you do searches on this board in 2005, you'll see that there were a bunch of ladies that used RS of NY and most of us were very unhappy with them and left.

I hope they do your IUI tomorrow & Sunday Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. A little long.

I want to say that I'm sorry you are so frustrated.
But, you should also know that you don't ovulate until 36 hours after the surge shows on your OPK. The RE knows the approximate timing based on your estrogen levels. That means that if you have the IUI on Sunday a.m., you will have perfect timing. The sperm are supposed to meet the egg in the fallopian tube - the timing will be fine if they do an IUI on Sunday and Monday...
I am not a fan of RSNY as most people on here know, but in this case I don't think they are all wrong. You would have seen the surge tomorrow morning, called and scheduled your IUI for Sunday.Chat Icon

I agree with all of this. RSNY not my favortie place. But yes, the surge you see when you POAS does NOT mean you ovulated. It means you will ovulate in the next 24-36 hours.

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. A little long.

UPDATE: So I called this morning, Saturday, and they wouldn't let me come in. I have to come in tomorrow and then talk about back to back for Monday. I am just mad. I feel that if I was to do back to back it should have been today and tomorrow. Monday will be too late and pointless.

I know the surge doesn't mean I ovulated right then but, since I surged Friday afternoon, I could ovulate Saturday afternoon and the egg will be a little old on sunday, and monday will be way past it's prime. Chat Icon This was my last natural cycle and I wanted to try everything possible before we moved onto more tests and fertility drugs.

I kind of want to have sex today, even though his swimmers don't work that well on thier own, just to cover all bases but, he is supposed to obstain. I just don't understand why, since I am paying a lot of money for this, I can't just do the IUI today? Would it kill anyone to just do what I wanted??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Generally I like the practice and I think a lot of my stress has to come from my fear of using more agressive means. I don't see the point of me using clomid if it is MF and my cycles are fine. I just think they want to give him more targets. But we have a very strong family history of multiples and the doctor said that my risk of multiples using clomid is then higher. We only have a one bedroom house until the housing market swings back up and I just don't know how we could handle twins or trips. If we got them naturally that's great, but, I just don't want to do anything to encourage that, you know.

So, since this was my last natural cycle, I think they could have just done the IUI the way I wanted today and the repeated it Sunday, the day they wanted.

Thanks for you advice. I am just cranky and I want things my way.Chat Icon I really don't have much of a choice since I am not going somewhere that isn't a center of excellence for my insurance. It would just be throwning money in the garbage since RS of NY is fully covered. And like I said, except for this OPK timing issue, I have been happy with them.

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. UPDATED at bottom.

Two things...
First - LIIVF is also a Center For Excellence as is NSUH....I left RSNY for many reasons and am using LI-IVF now.

Second - Just because the egg "may" be released this afternoon is not a cause for alarm. First, it's usually not released exactly 24 hours later, it's more like 36...look at other posts related to OPK's - most people don't actually ovulate for two days. That means that if you did the IUI today, the sperm probably wouldn't make it to the egg. Especially if you have motility issues. You need that egg to travel as far down the tubes as possible for a better chance and it takes it up to four days to get down the tubes.
They are really timing it much better than you think....and again, I don't like defending them but in this case I think they are right.

ETA: I'll never forget what my current RE said about them..."They can call themselves a Center for Excellence, but I certainly wouldn't."

That is funny b/c my current RE made a comment about them under his breath also. He said "you'll find we pay more attention to detail". And he left it at that. I wanted to ask him more, but I didn't. I could see he wanted to say more but he kept it professional.

I am sorry, but you are freaking out over nothing. Like Gerty said they are timing it right. You go to them for a reason, they are the ones who are supposed to know what they are doing. They saw in a BLOOD test you werent surging. That is much more acurate than POAS.

And yes, if you have MF you want the egg to have a head start, those sperm arent going to be able to sit around and wait.

You really need to trust your RE, and whether you say you do or not, you clearly do not. Even though in this case they are right. Be honest with yourself and if you are not comfortable switch. There are other centers of excellence, AND even if there werent, staying at an RE who "doesnt know what they are doing" (as you feel) IS throwing away your money.

Hang in there sweetie- trust your dr! If at the end of the cycle it didn't work, and you are still confident that he should've done it a day earlier- I would look into switching.
On a side note - I thought the same thing- my last dr made a very vague comment about them, but left it at that. Though I know ppl who have gone there and gotten their outcome and are very happy... but you find both good and bad stores at every dr I guess. Chat Icon Hang in there!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. UPDATED at bottom.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I think they make you wait becuase of the 36 hour rule and I was also told to only test in the AM. Sunday and Monday would cover your basis (say the egg is released after 36 hours (so sometime on Sunday morning)- the egg will be there waiting for the swimmers. And then it can live for 12-24 hours so Monday will just add some more swimmers to the mix.

I can relate to your frustration about Clomid for you while dealing with MF. We only had MF and I refused to go on any meds for IUI. My thought was that if I was ovulating properly and his swimmers couldn't hit one target month after month, then what difference would it make if there were a hundred eggs?? We made the decision on our own and after our third IUI (first one was back to back, this was the second cycle) we had terrible post-wash counts and they wanted us to do another back to back. Well we decided that was enough and we were moving onto IVF. They had no problem with our decision and as soon as I made that decision I knew I was on the right track to overcoming our problem (I felt the IUI's were useless for us). I used RS of NY and was very happy with them overall. I think the stress of the timing and working around your and DH schedules plus the office hours just makes it a really hard situation. However, if you truly feel unhappy with them then definately switch before you get to IVF. You don't want to be going through that process with a team that you don't trust 100%. I really hope you have a successful cycle and this will all be a distant memory for youChat Icon

Re: so nervous, upset, annoyed, frustrated. UPDATED at bottom.

I just saw this Tricia, so Chat Icon Chat Icon I am so sorry you are going through this! I agree with everyone else in terms of not technically Oing until 36 hours after the +OPK, but you know my story. I got a +OPK on 6/29 & went in on 6/30 to do the IUI. After the IUI was done, it was confirmed by sonogram that I had INDEED ovulated that morning. It was only a matter of 14 hours!!! Chat Icon

I also know how you feel about the Clomid. Taking it from someone that is only dealing with MF & now is doing Clomid IUI's, it is not that bad. I was very upset to find out that was the route we were going, but when it was explained, it made sense. We have multiples in our family too but for me, it was I would much rather do it this way & see how it works. If it doesn't work with Clomid & IUI, then we will have to make the decision to go to IVF. Chat Icon

Please remember that you need to be 100% happy with your RE, they are holding your "future" in their hands!!!!! So weigh all your options & if you are not happy with how this IUI was handled, then I would seriously talk with DH & research another RE....Chat Icon Chat Icon I am here if you need me
