Got a quote on high hats

I have a high ranch and I got a quote for high hats for the family room on the lower level of our home.

For 8 high hats, with 2 dimmer switches we were quoted $1,250. Does that seem about right to you?

I have 2 other electricians coming to give estimates.

TIA!

We did the same thing, but also put in 4 in our upstairs livingroom and I remember paying over a $1K (and we used someone we knew - although I'm pretty sure we didn't get a discount.)

I know for the downstairs they had to cut out a big piece of the ceiling to run the wire and such and they didn't patch the ceiling, we had to get someone else to do the sheetrock - so make sure you ask about that, if you haven't already.

It's amazing how much electricians charge for hi-hats. The parts are CHEAP.

I don't know where you are but my dad is an electrician and vendor here. You could call him (631) 399-2033. $156 a highhat seems on the high side to me, do the wires have to be snaked in or is there attic space above.

I paid $750 for 4 high-hats (dimmer) and a ceiling fan (switch). To install the lights he had to go in our attic crawl space. We used an electrician in Huntington if you are close by (he was the least expensive).

DH is an electrician and I asked him his price before I told him what you were quoted - its about right. He also said it depends on if you have switches there, how accessible the ceiling is, if there's a circuit there bada bing bada boom....but yea, you're in the right range. :)

Re: Got a quote on high hats

Sounds about right. We had 8 high hats with two dimmers installed in our den (1st floor of a split level) about 2 years ago, and it was about $1100, if I remember correctly.

Re: Got a quote on high hats

Thanks ladies! I have 2 more electricians coming to give estimates, but it's good to know that we are in the right ballpark.

There is no attic space above (this is the lower level of our house), so he did mention about having to cut the ceiling and what we would need to sheetrock and paint.
