got back the pathology report on my placenta. I had blood clots. Anyone else have this?

My OB called and said that they found blood clots with ischemic changes in the placenta. This is probably why my son was so tiny, even for being born at 36 weeks.

I have to go for testing for clotting disorders. My OB said that these tests often come back negative, though.

I had considered banking the placenta along with the cord blood. There is a company that banks both. When I asked my doctor about it, he steered me away from it, saying that it is best to send the placenta to pathology. I wonder if I would have learned of the problem if I hadn't listened to him.

I have a clotting disorder. Protein S Deficiency I decided not to go on any birth control since they have higher rates of blood clots and I didn't want to do anything that would increase my risk. I also decided not to go on cumidin at this point. The doctor said if I wanted to do birth control, cumidin would be a good way to offset the risk, but otherwise I really didn't need to take it yet. Maybe when I get older. There are a lot of foods you can't eat when you are on cumidin so that played a part in my decision too.

But you may not have any disorder. Both my OB and the hematologist said that pregnancy is a time where MANY women without any other blood issues develop blood clots and don't realize it.

Good luck, it's a little scary at first but I really don't think about it now.

Wow, it's a good thing you took his advice!!

We tried to bank ours with the hospital and they said there wasn't enough blood in mine. The other banks never would have taken it I guess.

I hope your testing goes okay! Chat Icon
