Got my PCOS diagnosis today...
I can't say I'm surprised, but it was a little unsettling to hear. Dr. Braverman feels that b/c I ovulate on my own and was able to conceive and have a healthy pregnancy before, I should not have a problem getting pregnant again, but he wants to put me on Metformin and probably Clomid to regulate my cycles. We have to wait and see if I'm pregnant this cycle before we proceed with bloodwork and a sonogram (let's hope!). I ovulated 3 days ago, so in the next 2 weeks, we'll know what we're in for.
Can anyone tell me about Metformin and Clomid? What side effects might I expect? Any other info?
This is so overwhelming!

The metformin will make your stomach upset at first, start taking it slowly then work your way up to the full dose.
The clomid will make you sweat while your sleeping, I didn't have much side effects on the clomid.

I haven't taken clomid,but the side effects were not too harsh on me. In the beginning, I was a little naseaous and I pooped often.

The only side effects i had on Clomid was more painful ovulation(nothing crazy) and minor headaches. It greatly improved the size of my follies

The metformin made my stomach feel a little upset at first, but nothing bad. My doctor told me I was a lucky one and upped my dosage.

I have to say that the Metformin side effects were easier for me to deal with... an upset stomach. The crazy mood swings that came with Clomid were more difficult for me. Good luck!

We conceived naturally and rather quickly with our first (3yrs old).
And then had difficulty conceiving #2. I was also told PCOS and put on metformin to regulate my wacky cycles. The side effefcts were bad in the beginning so I worked up from 500 to 1000 to 1500 and took them all at night and I got used to it.
It worked but I didnt ovulate every month so I was given 50mg clomid. After a few months on that we stopped and tried on our own for a while because I couldnt take the side effects. The hot flashes and moodiness were just awful. I was told it builds up in your system the longer you take it, so each month it got a little bit worse. I think we stopped after 4 cycles.
Then we switched RE's and the 1st thing she did was an HSG. We got pregnant the very first cycle after it.

I had (and still sometimes have) stomach issues with Metformin. As far as Clomid, I had some initial crankiness (at least I blamed it on the Clomid  ) and some painful ovaries during ovulation (once cycle Clomid had me produce 4 eggs!  ).
Other than that, nothing major. Best of luck to you!

I have only been on Metformin. Met alone worked for me so I was spared the Clomid. On Met I follow a good carb low fat diet and have minimal issues. If I decide to eat bad things I get a gurgle in my tummy and then watch out . I take 1500 mg broken into 2 doses of 750mg. I take one with breakfast and one with dinner. Also remember to take your folic acid at a different time then your Metformin because Metformin can interfere with the absorption of folic acid. Good luck
