Gov Murphy says there is a chance schools will reopen in June
I found that interesting. Cuomo says downstate NY will regionally coordinate with CT & NJ. We are on a decline, wheres NJ seems more like it is at the plateau, where we were two weeks ago. I wonder what will happen if Murphy & Lamont want to begin to open their states, and Cuomo is still saying NYC/LI can't enter Phase 1.

Yes, I was surprised when my DH told me that Murphy was saying something opposite from Cuomo. Interesting...

Gov Murphy says there is a chance schools will reopen in June
I feel so confused. I see here that they may open schools but then I keep seeing headlines that NJ will be closed until further notice.

Not sure. I just know that yesterday he said there was a "chance" kids would go back before September. Until further notice could mean 2 weeks, or 2 months. I don't believe he will open them before September, but at least he is giving people some kind of hope. Our governor gives nothing.

Tbh this is the first time he has done that. He’s hasn’t been really giving much or making any decisions until after NY has made them. I think schools were the only thing we did before NYC, but NJ closes schools all the time anyway.
They close public schools if it’s too windy.

Honestly, it's THEIR states why the hell does Cuomo have any say in it? Is ruling NY not enough for him? He needs to rule the entire tristate area now too? Last I checked he wasn't voted in by anyone in NJ or CT. Man is this dude on a power trip. Jesus

The governor in my state (NC) cancelled school through the end of this academic year. It's difficult but at least we're not constantly on edge about what's going to happen. At least now we can mentally prepare.

It’s funny you say that because a few weeks ago a lot of people from Nj were commenting on Gov. Murphy’s page that they didn’t vote for Cuomo.

I know, I’ve been saying this for weeks and everyone in my family were on the Cuomo bandwagon. And now my sister who also lives in NJ, is like wtf.

I think because all 3 governors are worried that if, say, CT opens, and NYC doesn't, New Yorkers will go to CT to eat at restaurants, go shopping, etc. I don't think schools matter so much. At least I think that is what he means. I no longer like him, nor bother listening to him. Believe it or not, and I can't stand DiBlasio, I have come to prefer his daily press conference. He gives some hope, talks about schools reopening in September, and beaches possibly opening for August. Cuomo just expects us to happily sit here imprisoned in our homed while upstate NY knows that in 2 weeks they will begin the path to reopening.

Collective as a unit that makes sense that ALL 3 governors get together. But the problem is up until now they are just following Cuomo. Well idk about CT but from NJ perspective, you can tell who was calling the shots.
ETA: at this point idc who it comes from, which state Governor, the president (I know fat chance lol), I just want to hear some that make sense and isn’t just speaking nonsense. Get some experts up there.

I have friends in CT, they said Lamont is also just being Cuomo's puppet. I agree, I do believe all 3 states should, for the most part, follow the same timeline. But why does Cuomo get to decide what that timeline is, all by himself? He is an arrogant SOB.

I agree. Also it's insulting to our intelligence. Do they think we are children that they can just keep in line by dangling the carrot and then pulling it back every 2 weeks? It's insulting actually.

I think Cuomo is calling the shots because his state will be the most effect by whatever the decision is made. If they open up people from NJ and CT will be commuting back into NY for work. Plus don't forget tourism in the city.
Honestly it's annoying that there hasn't been an announcement but if they made the call to close schools any earlier people would be pissed off because people would think "its too soon to tell". There I s no winning for them.

I’m in Bergen County which was hit the hardest in NJ, so I know they have to treat this side like NYC. Gov. Murphy can start thinking of plan to open NJ slowly without it totally screwing up NYC since there are a lot of rural areas. Same way Cuomo is talking about upstate NY reopening in two weeks. Yet you don’t hear anything about NJ. Opening some local businesses in whatever phase 1 is in south NJ. NJ can’t effect the commuting to NYC if the wfh order is still in effect and Manhattan is closed.Where would commuters from NJ be going if there are no offices to go to?
I feel like Gov. Murphy is treating all of NJ like NYC and following Cuomo. Cuomo is only thinking about NY and the impact of other states opening up. He doesn’t give a crap about NJ or CT.
ETA: I think that is what is pissing people off on this side of the Hudson.

I agree, and whether i like what he has to say or not he has been the only person to make any sense during this mess. He may not be shedding optimism but he is doing a job i dont think any of us would want to do. Imagine the pressure and stress of having all of these lives weigh on you? I believe he is truly doing the best he can, and dealing with a higher power who is not always so easy to work with. Again, im not for or against him politically -- but im in the camp of cutting some slack and understanding he is looking out for the greater good first and foremost... Unlike say, someone who asks if it makes sense to ingest clorox.

I won't send my kids if he reopens. It isn't worth the risk IMO. Just keep them closed, let's start again in the fall. Schools are petri dishes on the best of days!

because if NY bars, restaurants, Casinos etc are closed in NY but open in the tri state area people will cross the state line party etc and bring it back to NY

Gov Murphy says there is a chance schools will reopen in June
Cuomo calls the shots because there are more people in NY than in NJ and CT and because NY’s economy is integral to the rest of the country (and the world).
As far as restaurants/bars, I suppose you could get some people from Staten Island who go in to Jersey for dinner or some people from Westchester to go into CT but I find it hard to believe a large percentage of nightlife seeking city dwellers are going to pack into an Uber to go to a bar in Connecticut. The bigger concern is the number of commuters in and out of the city every day.

Well I think the Governor of NJ is ridiculous if he continues to let someone else call 100% of the shots for his/her state.
I also think people are missing my point. There is huge part of Nj that isn’t saturated with bars and restaurants. A lot of people from South NJ will come to North Jersey to go to bars and restaurants. Same way Cuomo is talking about opening up other parts of NY, why shouldn’t they start opening / testing those parts of NJ as well? And I’m not talking about schools, I’m referring to whatever their plan is for Phase 1.
Cuomo isn’t going to think like that about NJ, but the Governor of NJ should be.
Actually, a reporter did ask about south NJ, and Gov. Murphy wasn’t really aware they were going to start opening stuff. I think the mayors in NJ are starting to give in and open parks, beaches etc. The Gov. also said that those places is South NJ won’t be impacted with openings because they aren’t as densely populated. To me it’s odd that he is treating the entire state the same.
This also will not benefit me in the slightest because I’m in North NJ, and I think my county should 100% be coinciding with NYC.
