Ross Cummings says he is stunned by how popular his restaurant's "kids-eat-free" promotion is. "Parents love this stuff," says the manager of the Riverhead Ground Round, where a child gets a free meal with each adult entree. "Mom and Dad and two kids come in, and the kids eat free. That's why they come here. I'm shocked by how great the turnout is."
Call it "meal-deal appeal." Here are nine restaurants offering kids-eat-free promotions; some limitations apply.

THE DEAL: Check with your local Ihop to see how and if they participate. Huntington Station, for instance, offers one kids meal for each adult meal purchased after 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Commack offers the freebie on Monday and Wednesday evenings. "They're all different here on Long Island," says Commack manager Ellen McEnaney.
J & R STEAKHOUSE
Six locations on Long Island: Calverton, Islip, Medford, Patchogue, Rocky Point and Stony Brook
THE DEAL: With every adult dinner priced $8.99 or higher, a child age 10 or younger eats free from the kids' menu. Valid all day Sunday through Thursday, says Kevin Hutten, host at the Rocky Point venue.
