Grace was evaluated for EI today...
And she did GREAT! She does not qualify for services. I wanted her speech evaluated, because she was talking, just leaving the first or last consonant off of words sometimes.
Well...her comprehension is off the charts, that of a three year old!! DD is only 22 months! YAY!!! Her fine motor skills are advanced as well. Her speech and everything else is normal. 
I was so worried and they told me that b/c her comprehension is so advanced her mouth and speech muscles have not caught up to her brain yet. I am beyond happy right now, I was so worried.
It would not have been a big deal if she needed services, I would have been thankful for her to get the help if she needed it. I also wanted to say that they kept telling me that I TOTALLY did the right thing by having her evaluated.
So, for all the moms out there that are going back and forth between possibly getting an eval or not...just do it. They gave me a TON of info that I would not have known otherwise. Plus, just knowing she was going to be evaluated by a professional, set my mind at ease. Coming to the decision to have her evaluated was hard. I think once I made the decision to get her evaluated, it was like a weight was lifted. HTH anyone who is struggling with this decision.

Happy to hear everything worked out. EI is wonderful. I think all 22 month olds butcher 99% of their words. lol.

as a speech therapist- i love to hear stuff like this! sounds like shes doing great!!
and its totally true... a kid with comprehension thats advanced usually needs time to the let the expressive part catch up- the muscles and everything...
so happy you got peice of mind

Thanks. When the evaluator told me this I was shocked. I truly thought that she would qualify for services. I have never heard of this even happening until today.

We went through the exact same thing when my DS was 25 months old. It was an amazing learning experience and he was on a 36 month old level, made us wonder why we ever doubted ourselves.
