My mom went past St Anthonys the other day and said there was a huge tent set up for graduation. I was confused on how they can graduate so early. dont they take the regents? and arent the regents usually the 3rd week of June???

Re: Graduation Question
Thanks!
I guess a regents diploma doesnt mean anything anymore huh?? I remember back in HS that was something everyone wanted to get....it was better to get into college.

Re: Graduation Question
My brother works at St. Anthony's and their students definitely do take the regents. I thought all NYS students had to sit for the regents? Anyway, graduation was this past Saturday. I'm not sure why they do it so early, but I think most seniors have already taken all of their regents exams in years prior.

Re: Graduation Question
st. anthony's and the most other catholic high schools beside chaminade take regents - but seniors only have to take at most one regents and that is usually physics -if they need to take the regents then they walk wuith there class and get there diploma later on if the regents is necessary for the regents diploma

Re: Graduation Question
Every student in NYS has to take Regents exams. Usually seniors don't have any regents with the exception of physics but a lot of time seniors take AP science course or any AP courses and those exams are given in May.

Re: Graduation Question
now thats weird because i interviewed at a few catholic schools and i was told they don't take the state exams. these were middle schools, but i assumed that they meant they don't take the regents also.

Re: Graduation Question
Most private schools do not take the state assessments (grades 3-8) as they do not require funding from the state.
I would think they all take Regents exams, otherwise how are these students getting into college?

Yeah, I remember hearing that Chaminade students didn't take regents. I wonder why?

I think they feel that their testing is more rigorous or something like that. My mom is in the Catholic HS system and she told me that

They take Comprehension exams instead of Regents.

That is exactly right. I went to St. Anthony's and my Husband use to teach there. all the Seniors have already taken their finals. Regents were taken in prior years unless they are taking a regents course in their Senior year. At that point the regents in not calculated into their final grade.
