Grazing Infant

My dd is 2 weeks old today. Over the weekend we had some pooping issues. She was all backed up and gassy. I am assuming because of this she was taking less during feedings She was heading toward 3 oz., but then went down to 1-1.5 oz. before clamping down and or fdalling asleep (no strategy to wake her would.) Now that she is pooping, she is still "grazing" as my ped. office referred to it. The ped. office said you don't want to make that a habit. HELLO, I feel like I have no control over it. I do everything to try and wake her and to get her to take more- no success. So is this just a phase or do I need to be worried that this has become a "habit." I know habits do not form at 2 weeks, but physically, if she gets used to this, can't it technically become an issue?

Re: Grazing Infant

at 2 weeks my dd was doing the same EXACT thing and my office called it the same thing.. this was their suggestion and i have to say its worked beautifuly and we still do it now at 6 weeks and shes now taking 6 oz bottles!

this is what they said...

Feed her till she falls asleep. burp her then get up Change her diaper even if it doesnt need to be changed, the movement and COLD AIR on their whoo-haas will wake them up enough to feed again.. sit down and feed till they she falls asleep.. this time dont wake her and put her down!

its been a life saver.. Dd only got up once lastnight it was amazing!
