Great CSE meeting
I just wanted to share our CSE meeting experience. I'm shocked by how much the school district offered and the amout of support they already are giving.
DD is entering kindergarten, is diagnosed with PDD-NOS, and has major socialization and emotion issues (academically above average but hindered at school because she won't speak there - a motor mouth at home but absolutely no speech at school).
So they are placing her in a 12:1:1 with her own teaching assistant. 90 minutes of speech a day (in a group setting), 2 OTs, 2 counseling sessions a month, a parent trainer once a month as well as a parent support group once a month. They will also be sending her in the mainstream class for 1 hour a day for academics and for all specials, music, art and PE. I told them my concern about the noise in the gym for PE because it will be bouncing off the walls with all the kids yelling and playing and they wrote in her IEP that her class will put up the partition so it will be half qym only. One of my main conerns was academics because I didn't want her falling behind the mainstreamed K class but with the teaching assistant they will be creating her own ciriculum and will teach her want ever she's ready for, so that was great. They are also going to send one of the teachers home twice a week to try to figure out why she won't speak at school and try to coax her bring what she does at home to school.
Overall I am more than happy and everyone I have come in contact with has gone above and beyond. Even the principal at her new school has been in contact with me a few times to make sure I'm comfortable with everything.
Thanks!!
