Great school districts
What are some good/great school districts in Long Island. We own a co op in W. Babylon now, but I will be due in Nov so we are looking to buy a house and I commute to the city, so I need to be somewhat near a train station. DH works in Hauppauge. So Nassua or Suffolk.
Thanks!

Jericho Syosset Great Neck Garden City Herricks Roslyn Rockville Centre East Williston
Not really too familiar with Suffolk but I do know Smithtown SD is really good

Re: Great school districts
"Great" for what? There are SDs that are great for sports, so if DC wants to get a scholarship, it's geared for them. Some SDs have a great music program. Some have great special needs programs. Some people/DC like large SDs, some prefer smaller districts.
Ronkonkoma is in the Connetquot SD, which I think is a great district, for me and my DC. It's also very close to the Ronkonkoma train station.
Here's a list of LI maps, including school districts: http://www.co.suffolk.ny.us/departments/planning/Cartography%20and%20GIS/Cartography/Online%20Maps.aspx

Re: Great school districts
I know people that have bought a home in a particular district for it's ratings, and moved out of that district when they had a child born with special needs. So what is good for one, might not be good for another, unfortunately.

Re: Great school districts
We only looked at Smithtown and Three Village. Luckily it seems that our baby boy will not be special needs, but we would have to reassess if it seems we need those services.

Re: Great school districts
A good school district is definitely subjective, to these are generally regarded as top notch for Suffolk.
Harborfields Northport/E. Northport Smithtown Half Hollow Hills Three Village Port Jefferson
obviously Cold Spring Harbor is on the list too, but not many people can buy there

ITA... but be prepared to spend $500,000 + on a house in any of these districts.... some will be closer to $700,000 K and up in these places.

Re: Great school districts
There are quite a few posts that ask this. IMO most of LI has good schools. And the definition of a "great school district" is entirely subjective. The list of districts to avoid would be way shorter.

Re: Great school districts
Thanks for all the information. I didn't grow up around here, and have only lived on Long Island for 3 years, and commute to the city, so I don't spend much time on Long Island. Either way, this is all helpful information.

Re: Great school districts
We're buying in Wantagh district and were also considering Lynbrook district and Syosset district for our price range. Our 'reach' range districts were Rockville Centre and Herricks.
