Greenvale school
Does anyone have any information or experience with the Greenvale School? I am struggling with a decision for my son. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

Re: Greenvale school
I personally don't have any experience with the school - but I went to Friends Academy and we had a lot of transfers there in high school when Greenvale ended (as well as from Buckley and a few other schools). They seemed to have liked it. It had a good reputation back then. One thing you would might want to consider is what you would do with your DS when the school ends. Would you send them to Friends? Boarding school? Public school? Another choice?

Re: Greenvale school
A friend of mine did an internship there and said it was culture shock for her. Kids are not held accountable for much. They eat on engraved china and silverware. They don't have school vacations, b/c families go on vacation whenever they feel like it.

Actually from what I heard they do have nice family style lunches each day - where the students eat with the teachers. I don't know if they still do that or not.
I'm not sure where you heard that they don't have school vacations - they have pretty much the same school calendar as Friends did - they have Christmas break, spring break, etc.

Re: Greenvale school
The admissions director told us the teachers eat with the students during a family style lunch. Buckley does that too. Christine, You are right... They do seem to have the same vacations as the other private schools. Thank you for the responses. I really appreciate the info

She did her internship during the February and Spring breaks from her job to get her hours in without having to take a leave.
I guess this is from a teacher's perspective.
They don't have a Winter Break - just 2 days - from the website:
Friday - February 18, 2011 School Closed Monday - February 21, 2011 Presidents' Day, School Closed Tuesday - February 22, 2011 Return from Mid-Winter Break 8:30 AM
They do have a spring break - it's just not the same week as public schools.

Re: Greenvale school
Our son goes to nursery school there & we all love it. It is a very small & cozy school where everybody knows each other. Small classes, fantastic teachers, and outstanding resources. I would definitely recommend that you check it out. Green Vale has 2 open houses every year when you can tour the campus and meet some of the faculty. I can understand other posters' comments about culture shock. The experience is very different than public school where there is more cultural, social, economic diversity. Frankly I miss this the most. A lot of your decision will weigh on how you and your DH were schooled growing. That said, I still believe that Green Vale is outstanding. let me know if you need any more info.
