Hi, my name is Liz and I'm new to this site. My friend Jenn told me about the adoption forum, so I decided to write and say hello! I am an adoptee.. in the process of adopting a baby from Korean through New Beginnings in NY. I was a "lurker" for a short while, learning a lot through your messages. So thanks, keep on writing!

Hi Liz,

Happy you joined these boards. You and I sat next to each other at the meeting the other day. Cathy's so nice, but it was a tad dragged out, ya think? I have my all day meeting next weekend and I'm still waiting (over a month) for my homestudy appt. How are things looking for you? Did you guys start the nursery yet? Good Luck with everything, and welcome to the boards! We need more future adoptive parents on here (and adoptees!)

Hi Susan! Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat at the meeting recently. Have you heard from your social worker yet? We're just waiting for the letter from INS and then we wait for our referral. We started cleaning out the nursery this weekend (which is a chore since it was my office), which only builds the anticipation! We can't wait!! Hope things are going well for you If you're interested, I am attending the Lifebook class later this month

Actually, I do have news! Our notice from USCIS (fingerprint approval) finally came in the mail yesterday. I am making a copy and sending to NB right now. Then, it's just the wait for the referral. I understand SWS is going very quickly though, so... hopefully we'll have pictures / information soon!

Wow you are only a couple weeks behind us! We sent our paperwork to korea on February 20th.

We understand its approx 6-10 weeks from when your paperwork is sent to korea. Till referral. I am hoping its soon.

Oh and by the way, NB didn't tell us that we needed a Dear Birth mother letter and a set of family photos. I needed to mail those in after we mailed in our fingerprint approval. Just wanted to make sure you did that.

My husband just spoke to Cathy and she said if we mail the info to her today, she will send it to Korea on Monday!

I am actually working on the letter to the birth mother right now. How long do you think it has to be? Any suggestions in terms of content?

I already gave her the photo album at the last meeting.

That is SOOOOOOOO exciting! Congratulations! How many pix did you include in your album and is your letter handwritten or typed? Will it be translated before it's sent over or will the birthmom receive the actual letter from us? I was thinking about including the letter as part of the album? Is it just pictures of you and DH? Did you use captions?

In my album, Cathy suggested we use construction paper as the album will be placed in our file. So, I decided to cut the construction paper into the shape of a house. I put the captions in the roof and the picture in the body of the house. I included just eight pictures, two of myself and hubby, a few shots of him w/ our cats and a shot of me w/ our dog. I also included shots of both of our immediate families.

As far as the letter to the birth mom, I wrote it by hand and kept it short and sweet... just one page. I'm not actually sure what they do with that other than keep it in our file. I would think that if the birth mother comes back at some point looking for info, they will translate the letter at that time..but I'm not positive

Liz, you're so creative! Thanks for sharing. I had my all day class yesterday. Sitting in those chairs for such a long pd of time was pretty painful, but sure beats morning sickness! I have to get started on those pictures. I'm procrastinating.
