Re: grieving taxes with mark lewis
I completed all the paperwork over a year ago and it's still not done. Either there is a major back log or they forgot about me.

Me too. I think the last letter I got from them said something about we wouldn't know until September of this year. Something about going to different courts and they continue to appeal until they can not anymore. I keep trying to remember to call them and find out the status.

Same here I called about 2 months ago and they said they had thousands of cases annd were waiting to get into the court room.

We just filed the paper work with them. We will not know until september. They told us TOH goes straight to small claims court.

It has nothing to do with them...it's either your town..or the county..
Go to Ecourts
Go to supreme court...enter the code...the when you get to the search section click on Party search and put your name in...you can get your court info....

Thank you so much. OK, mine is still active, so I guess that is a good sign. Thanks!

Re: grieving taxes with mark lewis
We are using him.. but our RE lawyer called us and said she does them too... it's a flat rate. t would be cheaper via her but we already sent in the stuff to Mark.
So if you have a lawyer, see if he/she would do it.
Hmm.. i just went to that court thing and or names aren't on it!

Re: grieving taxes with mark lewis
we did it last year ourselves (TO Huntington). They hear all cases the third tuesday in May and don't mail out "verdicts" until late August (I put the letter in my school bag, so it was close to school starting when we got ours.
we were not approved b/c they felt the documents we used for home sales was not sufficient (from newsday homes sales)...but what kills me is I brought it in and they told me what to get...I brought it back and asked if it was good, they went through like 3 people if it was acceptable...and they said it was...I should have gotten someone to sign something.
I was thinking about going through someone just to get it done correctly and not worry.

Re: grieving taxes with mark lewis
Maybe I am crazy but, let's say they win and you get a credit, you have to then re-apply and do this every year after?
Do your taxes go back to what they were originally?

i used mark lewis two years ago, we won & got our taxes reduced by $1300. I'm using them again this year. how much did it cost you to get it done? was it worth it in the long run?

See I'm thinking the same thing. I got mail from Mark Lewis but I find they charge a lot as a fee. Does anyone know how difficult is it to do it oneself?

I used Mark Lewis and got a reduction of $1800 a year! We had to pay 1/2 of the reduction as his fee, so $900. We do not have to do this again every year. They said once it is done, it is done because what happens is that your assessed value is what goes down. So even as taxes increase, your % of increase is still on the lower value so it still stays lower than if you hadn't grieved them at all. We recently got another letter from them to do it again since home prices have continued to drop. DH and I are considering it.

We paid him 1/2 of the $1300, one time. It has been two years & I just applied again since home values have dropped even further. I am ultra busy & simply would not find the time to get it done, for me its worth paying him & not worrying about it.

You totally summed it up for us with what you said Kelly!
We also used him two years ago & hope to use him again this year if not next year for a further reduction.
