Group B Strep
So my doctor told me last night that I tested positive for Group B Strep. I know she told me it's common but of course I am worried that my baby will get an infection during birth. Has anyone tested positive?

Re: Group B Strep
I tested positive and DD had no issues. Since I tested positive we didn't labor at home much. My water broke at 330 am, I googled to figure out if it really was my water that broke, I downloaded an app to then time contractions and then probably around 5ish I called the doctor, DH ran to Dunkin Donuts for some food and then we went to the hospital around 8.
I labored for a while so was able to get more than enough of the antibiotic needed before DD arrived.
Testing positive just means you can't labor at home as long as some would like. You'll need to get in a certain amount of the antibiotic prior to delivery.

Re: Group B Strep
I tested positive during my first pregnancy and I was given antibiotic in the hospital, however I had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic before I could get the full dose. My labor and delivery ended up happening very fast so I wasn't able to get an additional dose. Everything was just fine, they just monitored DS after he was born a little closer but nothing urgent by any means. You (and baby!) will be perfectly fine

Re: Group B Strep
I just gave birth 3 weeks ago. My water didn't break but I was having painful contractions. We went and I told them I tested positive so they admitted me. I received dose 1 at 1030pm, dose 2 at 230am and she was born at 330am. You just have to make sure you don't dawdle. Get to the hospital. But they have precautions set up in case you don't make it on time
